I am trying to determine why I have gap at bottom of packing plate and drum. Any suggestions? I don’t this is supposed to be this way .
Those early Fords weren't designed to have Bendix brakes, so things work, but don't fit exactly right. is my guess
the 34 fords had a triangle shaped plate that has 3 holes for the steering box bolts that was originally on the outside of the frame rail to keep the nuts from gouging into the slotted adjustment holes. yours, like most, is missing. its an easy part to make and really makes it so you can tighten down the box real snug. not made new, you make it
The job of a baking plate{a**** other things} is to hold brake shoes in center of drum rub space. If you find the shoe is riding out on edge close to baking plate? Look for ways to move drum in more,or backing plate out more//if shoe rides were it should in drum,do nothing=it's fine and working as it should be. Stuff that was design to be together,or stuff that dose work to together, can be two def things as far as looks 100% right or not but still works right.
