I am about ready to order new wheels for the '55, and am needing to know what the maximum backspacing would be on the rear wheels. (I want the deep dish look) I am running a stock rearend and am wanting to go with a chrome reverse wheel. I think I read somewhere that 4" was the max that you could use but I think that was on a regular chrome smoothie type of wheel. I plan on going with a 15x8 in the rear and 15x6 up front.

i have no idea, but aren't '55 chevys notorious for having very little room for tires in back?

I think yorgatron is right, if I remember correctly you can get a spring relocation kit that puts the springs inboard of the wheel arch, thus giving more space...

Crafty, Are you thiking about the placing of the spring inside the frame rail instead of outside of it? By inside I mean notching the rail and placing the spring between the vertical walls not on the far side of the rail. This gives you the maximum wheel clearance without TUBING the car and narrowing the frame.

    I've got a 56 , the biggest I could go is 7 inch, 4 inch backspacing.
