Hi All- I just wanted to let everyone know the power of the HAMB and it's good people spreads far and wide. It's so great to very easily hook up with a fellow car guy, and get your dose of "cool cars" even when you're miles away from home. For those that don't know, the Lincury project has been on hold because I have been in Anaheim, CA (I'm from the Detroit area), on a work-related trip for 5 weeks now, leaving tomorrow for good at 4 AM. I hooked up with Bad Bob 2 weeks ago- who offered me a ride in his son's sweet '49 Shoebox to cruise to a show. Keep in mind, we're complete strangers- he offered to pick me up at my hotel and give me a lift to a local show. After a little mis-communication, we wound up just trading stories and eating some grub at the local burger joint that night instead of going to the cruise. 2 weeks later I'm still here. Bob offers to come back and try it again. Tonight, he picked me up with his son in his other son's '49 again, and this time we headed out to Fullerton. We went to a local Thursday night cruise, saw some cool cars, ate some good food, and had a good time. Bob, I can't thank you enough for your hospitality. I look forward to hanging with you again next time I'm 2000 miles from home! I can't wait to see the '49 Merc done- IN PERSON. Below are some pics form today's cruise. If you look close, you might see a local celebrity...from one of those "reality" shows...his little truck was pretty damn sweet...full of cool details. Check out the grill...the grill bars actually could be opened and closed, depending on the weather (close 'em if it's cold out). The first pic is Bad Bob's son's car...the last is a view out of the windshield, notice the dash signed by non-other than "Milner" himself. Too cool. mercman1951
I'll have to agree... and thank "Chaz" for similar hospitality while I was in Missoula for an assignment earlier this year. s.
I dont usually like to talk sh*t...but was the "celeb" taking credit for building that truck? HE DID NOT! It was built by Josh Mills of Joe Smith's/Mills & Co. here in Ga. Josh told me a story of said "celeb" taking full build credit for the truck weeks after the purchase and being publicly busted/called out by someone who knew better, he flat out denied it,then did it again a couple weeks later!
Looks to me like your having too much fun, get your ass back here to the motor city and get that car done! Least you'll be back for woodward!
Sounds like a stand up kinda guy, very cool to see that theres still folks like that out there. BTW, whos the celeberty? I guess I'm not seeing him
Josh is no longer with Joe Smith. He left to start his own shop. Here is a link to his site: http://millscustoms.com/ It has a few shots of the buildup on that truck. It's sad that someone with the resources to build show quality cars has to take credit for other people's work... or credit for anything that you didn't do. Sorry to rant OT about this but I've heard first hand this story play out. It's sad that someone can change a grill and a throwout bearing and say they built the car. Glad to hear that you had a good time away from home and that there really are good hotrod folks left Troy
I had the honor of hanging out in Bob's tent at the LA Roadster's show. I had just met him that morning too. Bob was great and treated me like and old friend. He was introducing me to everyone who walked by. I never got a ride though ;-) Oh well, I'll be back in So Cal soon enough. Just for the record, sandimas guy and wife are great people too!!! Hey Bob, watch your mailbox! You've got something coming that I KNOW you want. Vance
Bad Bob? Is he the guy who goes around handing out pornography veiled as "vintage pinup playing cards" He's one of the cool ones! -stick p.s. It's in a place of honor in my garage.
Don't want to hijack but..... I've seen this dude at a few shows here locally. He cops a tude when you try to ask him about his rides.(32 sedan, 32 5-win) Thats great you catch him with a b. s. line. On the other hand, I saw Duane at the Home Depot and you couldn't of met a nicer guy. Took the time to talk with my son for a few minutes. Go Figure.
Hey,for the record. That was a vintage Pin-up playing card I found when cleaning up my dads house, when he passed. Just don't want to give the wrong impression. If you see me at a show,i'll show you the other 51 cards.
You are more than welcome MercMan. By the way I'm picking up my Merc tomorrow(he says fighting back the tears). A dream of a lifetime finally coming true! PS-Bought dinner too!HA HA
That guy was at the Doughnut shop last weekend in his '32 Sedan. Seemed like a okay guy. He said he has five '32 Fords, who knows. I'm going to the Doughnut shop tomorrow morning to meet Tetnus shot. Can't believe you live right here, and still haven't met you. Start looking for me cruising in the Merc, after tomorrow. The shoebox is gonna get parked til Stumpy starts driving.
Congrats Bad Bob! Maybe some good size pics to share? Looking forward to seeing your Custom. You'll be at the Primer (And Paint too!) Nats here in Ventura? Ken
Nope. Never took credit...in fact, he was telling folks it was for sale, and that was that. He was pretty quiet; in my opinion. I appreciate your comments though, I had NO idea of this going on --being so far removed from So-Cal car culture that I am... mercman1951
Bob- I wish I was staying one more week...so I could have met up with you and that so-called "Merc" that you supposedly own. I'm back home now in Detroit...safe and somewhat?? sound after the body cavity search at the airport. Seriously guys, it's really cool to be completely 'out of your element' and have good people like Bad Bob just make your day and show you around. I can't thank him enough... Very nice guy- willing to go out of his way to make a stranger-- (HAMBER's) day. Now I know I have a friend in So-Cal! Too cool. Mercman1951
