Well, not really too bad, they work pretty well for being rebuilt 50's technology. But I came to the realization for the safety of others, my family and self I am wanting to up grade to disc for my 49 Ford. I am open to other options such as power booster. It is possible to just run front disc, right? So, what are you other shoebox guys using besides drums? I'm sure there is some kind of a junk yard swap, anyone know? There's Jamco, I looking for feedback from what people are using, pro & cons of different setups. Updated steering isn't a bad idea come to think of it either. I don't mean power steering, but there's alot of slop in my steering. Bad steering box? Alright, I'm babbling, lets hear it! Thanks...

what is that in your avitar? looks like someones severed leg?

I would check out speedway and see what kind of kit they have that will work on your spindles. Then get a dual manual master cylinder from MP brakes and run new lines for the front and rear system.

MP brakes has good diagrams and tech info on their website to help you decide how to put your system together.

As for the steering - check all you tie rod ends and stuff. Maybe just replacing all those connecting parts will get your feel back.

If i remember right speedway kits for ford stop at 48. What one of my buddies did was he had a nice doner pinto. he subframed his 49 ford with the front end from it. It really wasnt too big of a deal really. The biggest thing was the plateing on the frame and cutting right the first time. this upgraded his brakes and his steering. Im sure someone in the world makes the conversion kit we just finished converting over a 55 chebby with a front disk kit a prop. valve 3" drop spindels and sway bars plus all the bushings in the complete car . I think the total bill for that was in the $1500 area.
