My 53 Chevy has a bad chatter/shudder leaving in 1st n reverse. I've replaced the motor n trans mounts bc they were bad adjusted the pedal free play. Noticed the driver rear shackle seems to be worn. Could this cause the shudder or is it likely the clutch is my problem?

Possible contamination on the clutch disk ...Do you have any oil leaks?

Common clutch failure. If you have the original enclosed driveline it is a pain to get to it since the trans has to come out through the floor from inside. Cover the seat and carpet with plastic sheeting so the trans oil doesn't leak on it.

  6. Oil on the clutch material.

The 3 spd in my wagon does the same thing in 1st only and strangely usually only when its cold. Once its warmed up and running around for a bit it seems to go away.
