I'm a closet grammarian/spelling-nazi. Dooster hit the nail on the head though, if you're smart enough to spot the errors, you're smart enough to comprehend the post. I also have to agree with Big A - comprehension is what's important here. Emoticons may be overused, but they are important without the non-verbal cues that are missing from this format/medium.
Although English is my second language, typing ain´t my main problem, I guess. The much harder part is to transform the sense of a German sentence into an English sentence without changing the meaning.Sometimes I catch myself writing something that might be funny in German but also could be taken as arrogant in English... Anyway, I hope I didn´t offend anyone till now. If so, I didn´t mean it.
We've got the pot calling the kettle black here. "Generally accepted consensus" is repetitive and poor grammar."
I find it frustrating to read what people are trying to say.....so I just usually skip their reply...too much work trying to decode it. I guess making a point isn't important enough to some people for them to learn some basic english. It doesn't take a genius to make a post somewhat readable....heck...the overseas guys do better than some of the people with english as a first language....shame shame shame.
Here are some useful & interesting websites for those so inclined: Common Errors in English Technical Writing The American Heritage Book of English Usage Modern English Grammar Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary Enjoy!
63CadGuy I can actually read that faster (quicker? more rapidly? muy pronto? geez, now I'm embarrased, I feel like I am taking a test every time someone reads my post), but my english is lousy, guess it's because a bunch of my ancestors were Cherokee.. I think we should all start posting like that!
Thanks Rash. The post that started this was by a 15 year old United States citizen. He didn't even have the "First and last letters" in the correct place. Most of the European members have better grammar than a lot of us from the good old USA (Imagine that). Thanks to all for your input. I'm headed back out to the shop to finish some desperately needed wet sanding.

How many visitors with their wealth of knowledge will refuse to respond because they aren't sure about their punctuation (I never am) or their spelling? I was speaking up for them. I don't want to chase people away over spelling. If I misspelled anything or put the comma in the wrong place....refer to my first post.
[/ QUOTE ] So you should know then that sentences start with a CAPTITAL letter and when you're talking about yourself, i.e. "i", it's spelt with a CAPITAL too. Apart from that, top marks for spelling, punctuation and sentence structure. [/ QUOTE ] good call there Brootal. i never thought about that when i wrote it. i just prefer typing in lower case. it's annoying having to stop and press the shift*****on every other word.

[ QUOTE ] it's annoying having to stop and press the shift*****on every other word. [/ QUOTE ] Annoying is trying to read something with no punctuation, no capital letters, poor sentence structure, no indents for new paragraphs, and no attampt at correct spelling. No one expects perfection, but it would be nice if people would at least make an effort.
I hardly ever post.... So maybe I should re-intro everytime I have something to say.... BTW..I worked very hard at making this post gramadicly(sp ) correct It's a thought.
yea some times i think about learning my self how to spell but then i figure it would be just easier for other people to put up with my constant run on sentance and the fact that i can some times spell a word right. oo i made a period! i think like once a month some one has to make this post just to cause drama and to shake things up a bit. i guess the sweet**** tech week we just had must have been to boring for some to handle so they felt the need to make drama. i hate drama and thats why i know how to spell it! so back to cars. what did every one get done this weekend? i went and picked up a new motor for my car! just my 2 cents worth of bad grammer, bed time Bryan
So poor english is a problem on the board. No intro's also bug the***** out of those who care, well not everyone is perfect. At least folks don't post with ebonics... Yo buss dis. So poor english be a probem on de board. No intro's also bug de***** out uh those who care, well not all yall be perfect. Sheeit! Another great internet find...right http://www.atlantaga.com/ebonics.htm

RASHY </font> [/ QUOTE ] . Maybe the guys that get offended by poor spelling and english could come up with a card to keep in your wallet. If you see a cool looking model A broken down(I was going to write "broke down" because I like that but I think broken down is correct) on the road, you can whip out the card and test him to see if he can spell or write before you offer your****istance. That's every bit as absurd as not responding to a post with poor english or spelling here. Yeah, I may have over reacted, but everybody was piling on the guys that may be challenged in that area. It's not necessarily their education level either. It's been 40+ years since I studied english. I still use the word "carb" so I don't look stooooopid If we were in the garage and a bunch of guys started correcting my english, that is exactly what I'd say. so I did. I wouldn't come back either, if I felt I couldn't be myself. No hard feelings. I just hope that the guys that aren't sure of their spelling will still ask questions and hopefully help answer some of them.
