Just a thought for you guys. Around here in PA the going price at the crusher is $13.00/100lbs. Those Cads weigh about 4500 each if complete. That is $585 per car.
With some extra junk laying around that would be close to $1200 for junk for the 2 cars. If I wanted to go 40 miles away to the shredder the price is more, but they want 6 cars in a load. His $1500 was in the ball park. Sorry, but that is the way it is. I have s****ped some good parts cars. The crusher dosen't complain that the bumper is rusty or the fender has a dent in it.

^^ what he said. the guy that said $450 for the pair in s**** was way off. s**** prices are really high. I don't want to see an old car go to the s****pers either but nowadays money is pretty important to folks. why would he accept $500 for the pair when the s**** yard will give him better than a grand?

And a lot of you guys seem to think he s****ped them because no one would buy them. He clearly stated that the city made him get rid of them.

He did what he had to do.....sad as it may be.

Maybe I'm in a bit of a surly mood today, and you guys may call what this guy did "venting", but this thread seems bull. You sold the cars to a crusher....it happens, adults make decisions daily, you decided to go your chosen route...what is the point of some bs "bad news" thread? I seriously doubt your intentions were to encourage people to make those purchases they had been contemplating.

unfortunately cars are only worth what someone will pay...the car scene isn't exactly a good investment. I bet most guys would agree that you always put more money into them than you get back. I would have loved to have them but like most people here my money situation isn't great. The s****per offered a lot more than I could afford:)

  11. I think the guy who wanted to pinstripe the wheels on his '84 Cutl*** was worse, but this is right up there.

Sad bit stuff happens and it tends to happen a lot more often these days with all the local rules about what you can keep on your property and how you can keep it.
It may not have been the money as much as the fact that these days a lot of guys just don't have the room to keep two big old cars stashed away especially if they live in town and more so if they live where there are local covenants about what you can park in your yard or driveway.

But the biggest problem was most likely the guys who really would have bought them were too far away to make it viable to buy them even for a bit more than s**** price and then have the cost of hauling them home several hundred miles or more. Sometimes even free gets expensive when you start figuring in how you are going get that item home. The two engines that a fellow Hamber gave me a while back ended up costing me about 250.00 before the day was over when you figure in 380 miles worth of gas and eating out twice for my wife and myself. I'm not griping on that one as I have an engine for my roadster, my wife and I got to take a really nice ride and ended up having two nice meals that we didn't have to fix but multiply that by two trips to get two cars and all the sudden you have as much in gas and travel expenses as you have in the cars. And how many guys read the add on the Caddys and thought just that, interesting cars but going and getting them or having them hauled would cost more than the cars?
