SASCO, the last remaining directly Studebaker related buisness in South Bend Indiana, which sells NOS Studebaker parts from the supply left over from Studebaker factory production will close forever at the end of 2009!!! The parts inventory is owned Dennis and his wife, and he was leasing the old Studebaker Engineering building from the City. They are not renewing his building lease,so the can tear down one of the last old Studebaker buildings in the revitalization area. Dennis is going to retire since he is of that age. He did save the parts about 10 years ago when the City tore down the old building they were in. He ain't going thru mpoving all that stuff again! It was a M***IVE job!! If you have ANY WANTS/DESIRES for parts for your Studebaker projects, you better call and order it and spares,There is talk of Studebaker International in southern Indiana absorbing the inventory, but don't wait in case it falls thru.If no one buys the stuff,it could end up in the s**** heap, which we hope does NOT happen. One would think some company would want to buy that inventory. Since Dennis, as you say, is unwilling to deal with moving his inventory, and he has lost his lease, seems as though the deadline weighs heavier upon the seller, Dennis, than any buyer. He can either sell it for less than he wants to someone who will make the stuff available to enthusiasts, or he can sell it for s**** out of spite. Maybe I should buy some parts for the 2R5 I have yet to buy. What parts are likely to need replacing on a typical 2R5?
Well if he used his head right, he would sale the parts to someone else instead of s****ping them. Looking at it from a money making deal, he will make hardly anything off of s****ping them, and he could sale the inventory and make a HELL of allot more money. And looking at from an enthusiast stand point, it's disappointing. Then what're you sapposed to do about parts? And it's stupid that they're gonna take down the building. Do these people have no respect for history?? 1shot
if i recall...most of that stuff was heavy truck components so no wonder he doesnt wat to move it! hopefully someone will give it a home.
Studebaker big meet is in Cedar Rapids this year. Maybe you can make this a big topic of conversation. He certainly isn't going to s**** his whole inventory.
