Shane, I'm with Scotty. The winner is the guy who builds the most inventive part with simple hand tools..... or even better with home made tools, that's a double whammy right there.

Thank you for sponsoring these Tech Weeks / Months. We all benefit from it.

My idea is to make a short list of commonly fabbed hot rod panels components eg. track nose, hood, doors etc. anyone who posts a thread showing their creation of one of these items would be in the running, the one that shows fine workmanship, design and ingenuity wins

You're telling me to read? You better go back and read, hell you even agreed with one of the comments. Your comprehension skills suck.

The talk of eliminating someone from the running because they have a well equipped shop is BS. Or that they do it for a living. The tools do not make the skill.

And now the attitude has been confirmed.

I like that these guys come on here and share, that's how we all get better. Baileigh is doing something great. Bravo for them....

This is true, but the guy that does it for a living has a HELL of a lot more time to hone his skills than the average joe. If you are doing this to pay the bills chances are you already have top of the line tools, or damn close. 98% of this community knows that a quality tool helps out a LOT!

It would be nice to see the little guy that can't afford a thousand dollar bead roller have a chance against other 'tool-less' guys instead of guys with 100k in metal shaping equipment. Even as hard headed and stubborn as you are can see the logic in that. Or maybe not...

In my opinion a the HAMB contest must stay around the hot rod world, make something with a piece of sheet metal in not as HAMB..

make somethig of useful for an hot rod with a sheet metal is HAMB. My two cents

I'm going to agree with this. Making something hot rod related should be a must for this board, just anything out of sheet metal would be for the metal shaping boards.

This pro V/S home guy stuff IMHO is BS. I know a lot of guys that build out of their garage that are much more talented and build much better stuff then some "pros" I know with big, well equipted shops. I also know some home shops that have more high doller tools then some pro shops (particularly mine, I really don't have much as far as equiptment). I think anyone judging this would weigh in how something was built, built from scratch with nothing would surely outweigh something spit out of some high dollar cnc machine.

I'm against eleminating anyone from this compatition. Anyone here on the HAMB ought to have a shot at this. I know I'm excited to try for it, if I'm told I can't because I'm a pro it will piss me off for sure. One of these cool tools Baileigh is donating would be very appreciated and used.

All that said, when are we getting started!

I think your contests are pretty cool, why not limit it to the guys who really need the stuff, no rich guys or big time pro shops. Think the guys on the Hamb are honest enough to self police that. (And I always appreciate a plug for stuff from America too.)

I concede to Flop,If what he can do with hand tools is any indication I would love to see what he could do with good equipment.

  11. I think a tech month would be the best and brings out the most innovative ideas. As for the Pro vs. home guy I don't remember any tech week/month that the winner has been based on how slick the final product. Most I have seen are good inventive ideas that could be helpful or doable by anyone. If a pro has a great idea then he should be just as eligible as anyone else. I didn't think that these giveaways were Charity events for guys without tools but motivation for guys to post what they are doing so we can all see and maybe learn something new.

Top marks for Baileigh for putting these on and giving away such cool prizes.

I just brought up the point that lets make it easy for all to get in on this, even us outside builder folk.

Lets keep it easy for Shane too, he doesn't need a shitstorm over a generous gift.
I think we all know who wins these things - all of us! Knowledge is power.

    Wheeew! Thank you!

  17. I want to thank Shane for doing the give a way. As far as eliminating any one because of there level of ability or the number of tools they have is BS. We all have a chance to learn from this contest whether the idea comes from a pro or an amateur, makes no difference, just learn from it. The prize is just added incentive to post and tell people what you are doing or are capable of doing.
    THANKS AGAIN for doing this!
    Later,
    Dick

how about just sending me the tube bender and i'll do a tech with it so i don't have to pay to get my roll cage bends done :)

    or

a regular tech month type deal like the last one always works. thanks for being so generous with the prizes, it really says alot about your buisness by actually giving something back to the guys that support you.

I like the idea of seeing what everyone can make from a sheet of metal (aluminum or steel). I know it would force me to want to do a little more metal shaping then I have been lately.

Thanks for giving something back....the list of equipment last time was a tough decision for which one I could use the most if I had a chance of winning. All looks like great stuff!

Next time Shane, I think you better decide the criteria and just post it up. All this bitching is disappointing considering the generosity of Baliegh and the (usual) spirit of the HAMB and Tech Week / Month.

I just want to see clever ideas that I can use or learn from. Use that as guide and you can't go wrong.

  22. how bout who can fab up the 4 x 8 sheet into some hotrod related using only HAND tools and who can manage to piss and moan the least about possibly getting something for nothing.

I love this 4'x8' sheet of metal/alloy (maybe 14 GA max?) idea, hot rod related.
body panel, furniture, art, frame rail section, endless possibilities.
I would love to be a part of this:)
I think making exclusions opens to many doors for conflict.
30 day competition, no one submit idea till final day.

let winner decide on one of the 3 tools mentioned

poll voting for winner, only people who have been a HAMB member for over 30 days from contest end submission date can vote in the pole, keep the forum "help my buddy win" post on other sites

I like the idea of a tech month, but limited to normal everyday tools, grinders, hammers, saws, drill, that sort of thing, no lathes, bridgports, mills etc.

Sort of a show us what you can do without expensive equipment, and we will give you expensive equipment.

along the lines of some suggestions made-pictures of a tools/machines that you have made (at home or in a professional workshop),then pictures of parts made with said tools/machines for hamb friendly rod or custom.the main point being you have done the whole lot yourself.
