Bakeolite resto question?

I picked up an early Model A Mallory distibutor and the cap looks like it sat through a few sand storms. NO one is making the 4 cylinder caps anymore, so there's no real option to replace it.

Is there anyhting I can do to bring the shine back? I tried plastic polish, but it didn't cut quite enough... but I also don't want to lose the raised lettering

You can polish bakelite with a buffing wheel.
