Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SLAMIT, Feb 1, 2009.

  1. its funny that a guy from Nebraska is telling you the good spots in L.A.

Glendale has a lot of bad areas and a lot of surrounding area are bad to.

as for Burbank i live in a gang infested drug dealing neighborhood one block away from Burbank city limits.

  2. You did say Bakersfield? Right?

There's someone in Fresno that can make jokes? Does any one actually understand him. It must be so lonely!

I know what is said about Bakersfield but I've been here for over 20 years and it is a place I'm glad to be raising my kids. As far as cost of living goes I pay 1200 a month for a 1400 sq ft house in a cul-de-sac with a pool, hot tub, built in BBQ and fridge on the patio, RV parking for building cars and a safe neighborhood. My daughter's school has been awarded the California distinguished school award twice in the past 10 years and there is a nice park a block away. There are some very reasonable rents right now and the cost of homes are still falling like lead baloons around here. The best parts of town are in the southwest and in Rosedale. If a working class town with sherriffs that aren't afraid to shoot apeals to you then by all means move on down.

I moved to Bakersfield in August. I like it better than most of the towns I've lived in. There are hot rods everywhere and a dragstrip close. There are plenty of bad neighborhoods and good, just takes some looking around. The people drive here more agressivley than anywhere ive lived.

Bakersfield is the nut sack of california...Fresno is the arm pit of California.

Seriously though. it is hot in the summer and foggy in the winter. The air sucks year round. 2nd worse in the country.

Housing is cheap and until recently when oil took a dump in price it was EASY to make 75k-150k here. Right now a lot of oil field workers are out of work but as soon as summer driving kicks in oil prices will recover.

schools are ok and there are lots of affordable...hell really cheap nice areas to live. LOTS of houses that have never been lived in for sale.

I live 30 miles outside of bako...schools are great where I live. lots of money in the school system and small sized classes.

high school here still has auto shop, welding, woodshop, art, band, two gyms, two pools, tv station, etc...I live here for my two small kids.

It is close to the beach (pismo or Santa barbara), close to SLO, close to LA...lots of stuff to do and I can live here cheap enough so that I can do that stuff and afford projects and a shop in my back yard. If I lived in a large city which I have it seems you are working just to get by.

I lived in Bakersfield for a few years working at Parts Depot in Rosedale during the day and working as an on-air DJ at KUZZ at night and week-ends. I moved here to Mesa, Arizona many years ago and have no regrets about leaving California because it's not the "Promised Land" that it was in the 60s, 70s & 80s.

oh one more thing about the area...making the thread car related

It is a DRY area so there are lots of old cars/trucks to be found still that have very little rust. Hell when I wanted a 49-52 chevy car I just ran a want ad in the paper and people were calling me left and right to come look at what they had in the backyard/field/driveway.
