I plan to be in Bakersfield June 16th thru the 19th. Im guessing its hot as hell that time of year? Cant be any worse than Phoenix here. Unless you like crime, homeless, prostitutes, druggies, gangs, etc on your doorstep. There are better areas north of Union. But the good junkyards are on Union, great for a daytime visit. Bakersfield isnt all bad, just like anywhere else.
Don't listen to them!! I live here in Bako and it's just fine in June....wait until July or August when its 110 outside! Whoo hoo that's hot! Don't stay on Union Avenue because all the motels rent by the hour for the dirty hoes pimpin themselves out. All the junkyards are on South Union which is further south then the fairgrounds. You must be coming for the biker build off. Yer fine with the Hilton. Not anything closer to the fairgrounds I'd stay in!! There are older junkyards on Edison Hwy. I grew up in Bakersfield and its totally better than Fresno. Every time I went to Fresno something bad happened. The last time I was there I got a pretty good hotel for cheap were the red lion used to be next to the vans skate park. That was like 3 years ago though.
Yeah muttley you might be right, but they can't have any car shows or drag races in fresno because the cars might and usually do get stolen. I cannot Think of more than one show anybody outside of fresno would drive to fresno to see. Bakersfield has the March Meets and oh have you heard of the Hot Rod Reunuion? It is kind of a new thing. We have more show That suck than Fresno has good ones.
Glen you'd better bring a sweater, it might only be in the 90s when you're here. That hotel is as good as anything else you'll find. You'll be a couple of miles from the fairgrounds. (3 exits) Come see me while you're in town! R
I would recomend stopping by a town just south of here for a bit of cultured car experiance. The LA Roadster show will be going on and I will be out of Bakersfield and down there. It makes for a great fathers day, if you can only drag yourself away from Bake town for a day of your trip. Useless
Unfortunately I got burned out on the Roadster show, tradition yes, but way too much 1-800 kit car stuff.
It's all about the swap for me. People bring stuff there you just can't find anywhere else. The prices are high but when nothing else will do but that you have to pay. I'm a poor boy building a steel 32 3 window from a body shell, so I need lots of small and big stuff I just can't find. Useless
