Well, We've been busting our tuchi on the Barn Job and the last few days have been a true labor of devotion. Tonight we burned the last of the midnight oil and got'er running, basically painted, the new trailer outfitted with tiedowns & a winch and loaded'er aboard. Tomorrow at dawn we hit the bricks for Bakersfield (the trailer connection has an unsolved open circuit in the runnung lights, so no night travel). Bringing the camera, so will have photos of Saturday and some updates for her build thread. No cooling system at all yet so we can only make noise for a bit at a time, but she's singing that great old song of sixes, sidedrafts & sewer tubes. Show & tell's gonna be a gas, and we'll be racing in August.
We're back from Bakersfield, Three of the "HAMBster Herd" (our SoCal HA/GR group) had cars there in various stages of completion. ThingyM's is now a roller with steering, seat and tank in place (he does very nice work). He made up a sign to hang on the staging lanes fence where we were on display too. He also brought along a frame he's welding up for another member (who couldn't make it, so I couldn't get his OK to mention here), giving us cars from bare frame to ...... tadaaaaa ..... running. Yep, we got the Barn Job actually making some noise for the crowd. Just by the skin of our teeth, but we were able to fire'er up and scoot'er back and forth nine times during the day. The folks dug it and we handed out just shy of a quarter of the 400 rules sheets we'd made up. We had to Paste (and I do mean "paste") the carbs together to get'em through the day but they held and the show & tell went very well indeed. Many asked if we were going to make some exhibition runs. We had to beg off (too much small stuff not squared away yet) but were allowed to tell'em that we will at the August meet. Quite a few are now looking forward to that. I've put a few Bakersfield photos in the album too. The ANRA meet was great. Lots of cars and lots of racing, hot as hell, and we took turns at the show & tell so I got to enjoy a good bit of it all. I'm not much of a camera man and try to limit inflicting my (lack of) prowess on others so any of you who took pictures of the other cars, racing, people, etc. feel free to pop'em in here if you like.
Thanks for bringing the Barn Job out and firing it up for us, Looks Great! I'm still inspired to build one and adding to my parts pile for a winter build. Wish they were included at the California Hot Rod Reunion, I would start thrash'n now
COOL! You guys are stylin, keep up the good work. There is alot of cars being built around Okla because we along with the other teams are always handing out the rules and answering alot of questions. People really like these cars. Our next race is next weekend in Tulsa. It will be a two day deal for the hamb dragsters. Some of the new guy's should get broke in real good.
Not a lot to add, only a few pictures and a big thanks to the ANRA for letting us enjoy their race meet. The first two are the early arrivals. The third is the Barn Job in its near completed state. Shot Shot Yes it runs and sounds great. If this doesn't get all us off our ****s and building, we need a brain transplant. Shot Damn, Old6, ya need to lighten up and have some fun.
Hey Tom, Those pictures are better'n the ones I took (no surprise), may I use the Barn Job one for our build thread header?
What do you mean by "the early arrivals"? Who owns and built them? The Barn job is great, but somebody else needs to blow there horn too. Everybody loves to read the details.
The roller is the property of ThingyM. He's been tied up a bit lately and is behind where he'd like to be on it. I'll let him fill in his own details but I will say he does very clean work. C'mon ****, sing out. The bare frame is also his welding work and belongs to a friend of his. I don't have the right to add more on that one as yet. Perhaps he can cover that as well?
Everyone knows all about my POS. The other car belongs to the Electrical Engineer at the shop.. He has all the necessary parts to start thrashing on it.. It will be powered by a built 230 cu in 55 Ford 6. With a 3 speed Ford gearbox. 11" Ford clutch. 80 mustang rearend.Posi. and a 41 front axel. And the old reliable VW steering Box.It too will be ready for some testing by the end of the summer...
Oh! The little roadster is one that I built for a guy that calls himself "Zero Budget Racing" and that is exactly what it is too..Most of the running gear was donated by different people. This was the first time it left the shop in over 2yrs..And I must say, He was on cloud 9..
No problem, you can use any of my pictures that you want. I'll try and get some good ones for you. Sorry for neglecting to credit Thingy's work, just went brain dead on that one.
