Can somebody crudely make me an ignition wiring diagram? Its a 56 car with aftermarket distributor that ONLY starts cold, after that I have to tweak the distributor to get it to start, and return it for it to run good. I have stock points and an external ballast resistor on the manifold. I have one wire NEAR the ballast resistor thats frayed and broken at the connector that MAY be an issue? And the coil runs kind of hot. I dont know whats causing this issue but its been running the life out of me for about a year! Any help would be great- Thanks guys- Anthony

This isn't the whole ball of wax - but it is a typical wiring scheme that goes around the ballast resistor in "start".

It utilizes a "jumper wire" off the Ford style four post starter solenoid to feed the coil directly when the starter is engaged. The big load on the battery causes voltage to "sag" and if the ballast lowers it further (as in no jumper) - the coil is really hurting for juice.

How much initial advance do you have in this set-up? Some engines like a lot of initial advance when running - but not when starting.
