Hi from Germany, after the head gasket on my a-banger was blown away i had to replace the gasket. The headnut torque is 55 foot pounds (45 at the water outlet i`ve heard), that`s all i know at the moment. My problem is that i don`t know which nut at first, second, third and so on....... Is anybody here who can help me with a picture or something like that. Wha do you think about the graph tite gasket from Mac`s?? PS: I`m riding a winfield head. Thx Holger
This graph is for a model T, but will give you the right idea. Start in the middle, and work your way out staggaring laft and right bolts. Torque numbers sound right.
Thanks Chris, it`s helpfull for the moment. Anybody here with a graph for a model a banger head?? It`s not so easy to ride this kind of engine here in germany, but i WANT it more then everything else at the moment and i need a little bit help from this community. I´m hopefull.
Flattie, welcome, might be worth joining the Monthly Banger meet http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=161498 I'm sure the graphite gasket is good, but there is a few tricks with sealers etc to make sure it seals well, and retorque after running. Not had to do mine yet, but ask at the banger meet, and you'll get all of the help you need.
I do mine like crazydaddyo shows. I torque all 14 the same making sure the head and water outlet are flat and use a very thin gasket, or sealer only. If you are interestred in performance bangers go to www.hotforhotfours.com or write me for a free copy of our F.A.S.T. magazine. jimb4e4@gmail.com
