I picked up an abondoned project today, and it had this rear in it.I was "told" late 40's, but the seller was unsure, thats why I got the swinging deal a****st other things....I know someone here will be able to identify this thing=year(s). it has a pinion yoke(?) similiar to a Mercury with the indentation for the u-joint. All help is tottally appreiciated. WMS to WMS is 58 1/4, and shoes/drum is 12 X 1 3/4.Thanks-Kid
That sounds right madmav. Just some more stuff for you I-kid.... http://www.hotrodworks.com/project_vehicles_view.asp@carid=39.html Here are the codes that are on the bottom of the axle. 3.54 11/39 3.78 9/34 4.11 9/37 4.33 9/39 4.44 9/40 4.55 9/41
BB John- I just looked on the bottom of the center section,as well as both tubes=I don't see any stampings or anything else.Possibly somewhere else?? Banjo's are new to me (rookie), and IDK S$#T about identification.=Tube size, open driveline(although it seems to be the case),and possibly gear ratio ID.Not a prob for me to keep looking though.... Thanks-Kid.
The numbers on the bottom will be the gear ratio. 9/34 (934 stamping numbers will run vertical) would be 3.78, etc as posted. Number will be somewhere on the ridge coming from your open drive to the center of the "center" section on the bottom.
Well- The only clear number i see stamped is a "4",and nothing else. No biggee,as I'll have to split it and count teeth. Thanks for all your replies.-Kid
Possibly a 3:78 then. More for you... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=462776&highlight=banjo+ratio http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6357229#post6357229 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=540194&highlight=banjo+ratio
This rear axle was used in half-ton pickups and other light duty Ford comerical units from 1942 to 1947. 1948's went to a non banjo axel.
