Hi, guys im buildin a traditional 28 A. i wanted to keep with a pre 55 theme and wanted a banjo in the rear. i don't want to have a torque tuber cause i wanted to run a 53 322 nailhead and a chevy 4-5 speed. anyways was wonderin what year off ford came with a banjo that has a pinion on it to accept a driveshaft. i now trucks had a banjo with a pinion but what year of truck or car and model did they have them in? any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks Mike

    '42~'47 TRUCK

I thought they went to the Dana Axle in '48.

    I have a '46 In mine

  4. what gears does the PU rear have? it may be low gears. you might be better off converting a passenger rear to open drive. Hot Rod Works sells a kit to convert a closed banjo to open , but if you are handy and have access to a lathe can can do it yourself and save some money. there was a tech on how this is done and not hard to do....i have done it myself...if i wasn't so lazy i'd find it for you

One can also convert any Ford banjo to open drive with a conversion kit I think Speedway motors sell. That way you can find the narrowest rear for the car and make it open drive.

  6. it has been said on here that the one Speedway sells is a foreign made copy of Hot Rod Works

    Good luck with your project.

They came in the same ratios as Pass car.

Mine is a 3.78, But the first one i had was 3.54 but the gears were worn out.

Big draw back is its REALLY hard to find New Gears for them.

If you Realy need to use Open Drive, Why not just use an Early '50s Open Rear End ?

Early Olds & Pontiac are a good choice as are MoPaR with the 5on5.5 bolt circle, Packard, Hudson & Many Others

thanks for the help guys!, i wanted to use a banjo cause, well really just for the look of one and was thinkin of upgrading to a quick change for her too. thanks for the tips on the conversion kits, my have to take a look and see how much work it would be and i have a hole machine shop at my disposal so if i can i will make 1 up.

i also did my shopping as backwards and bout the tires nd rims before my axles (impulse, stupid cheap parts)

    Thanks a Million
