  1. Is 1948 the only F-1 that came with a banjo-style open drive rearend?

I beliave that all of the F-1 trucks came with a banjo rear from 48 up. Also, 47 and earlier trucks had open rear ends. I beliave the open drive came out in 1942, but I could be wrong. I know I have a 47 truck rearend with open drive that i going in my 32 truck. I am running a 1942 truck flathead trans, and that is open drive also.

  3. Thanks, I've had conflicting info about the later F-1s having a different rearend. I should mention I am looking for one of the rearends complete drum-to-drum that's ready to run. Thanks Jim

  4. 49 and later didn't have banjo diffs,and only early 48s had em.Although I haven't ever seen a 48 with one.JimA your best bet is to look for a 46,47 getting rodded or parted....Shiny

I'm with Shiny on this one. Look for a rear end out of a 42-47 p/u, as I have always seen the Spicer style rearend in F-1's.

By 53, the F-100 had a Dana in it. Not that this helps, but just a little FYI.

  7. Anybody have one of the '42-'47 opendrive rearends for sale?

  8. I believe this one is a 46. I'm going to use the centre section in a 36 car diff.

My early '48 F-1 has a Dana style rearend, listed as Ford-made in some parts books, although I'd guess it was from Dana.

Tardel has new open-drive conversion hardware for sale. The "kit" shown is for a QC, but just eliminate the quillshaft and you can see what you need.

  10. The Hot Rod Works guys in Nampa Idaho also have the stuff you need to convert to open drive.

  11. Check the tech-o-matic. There is a thread on doing the convertion yourself.

Speedy Bill also sells a kit, but if you can do it yourself with the tech info in the archives, so much the better!

Dunno, atch, you're probably right. Speedy Bill does a lot of re-selling/re-packaging... [IMG]
