    Yeah, they're not exactly in the junkyards anymore, but if you come across someone with a rusted into the ground one in his back forty, it might have a good differential in it.

    The 8-inch 3.55 as used in Pintos and Must IIs were kind of scarce to begin with and then not a lot in the junkyards anymore. Most 8-inch in other cars have 2.80 or 3.00 gears, some older 60's have 3.25 range.

    9-inch will have easier to find and more gear ratio options. But 9-inch is stronger than required as previously mentioned

    For the cost of a Banjo open drive conversion, you could get the 8-inch or 9-inch rearend and be good. One thing to consider, if you want the 5x5.5 bolt pattern, then 9-inch from a truck has the right bolt pattern. 8-inch will be the smaller 5x4.5 car pattern, or the 4 lug pattern on the Pinto/Must II rearends.
