The square shaft sticking out of the back plate to and including'36 indicates rod actuated mechanical brakes. 36 was the firat and only year for wide 5 pattern with these. 37 & 8 were the only years for cable brake, still wide 5. 39 the last year for wide 5 and first year for hydraulic brake. 40-48 back to the 5 1/2" bplt pattern.
40-42 drum is outside the hub. after the war, 46-8 the wheel bolted directly to the hub flange that was exposed, drum went on from the inside.
The 46-48 is a couple inches wider and the spring/shock mount is heavier duty, bigger than pre-war cars had panhard and sway bar attached. Spring was covered with a tin armor, greaseable these last 2 years, antisqueak.
That doesn't mean someone hasn't changed hubs/brakes simetime in the past.

    from spring tx.

you forgot that 35-36 have bolt on spring hanger/wishbone combo, instead of 2 seperate units.early 32's have a round flange on the torque tube where it meets the center housing, also they have tabs welded to the bottom of the axle tubes for the radius rods to mount parallel to the brake backing plates.33-34 have the same kind of mounts welded on the tubes ,but they are angled inward, and the torque tube has a flower shaped flange like the 35 and up cars do.

    hope all this helps.
