So, I'm stripping down the truck and for the time being until I get the body ready for paint I'll be using Gibbs on the bare metal. My question is: how many 12 once cans should I order for the whole truck? Thanks for the help.
I did most of a 29 chev 2dr with only one can,and still had some left.It goes quite a ways especially if you soak a cloth and spread on the large panels.
I'll second 29bowtie's post. My brother only used 1 can to cover his (ex) 30 truck and had left overs to reapply down the road as needed.
My merc has had a bare metal roof for the last 4 years and 1 can has kept it that way. It probably done the whole car twice. -stick
I was wondering the same thing. Found this using Google: http://www.roadsters.com/gibbs/ Looks like this maybe the stuff people are using, althought I don't know for sure.
In a nutshell, Gibbs is a spray that you can use to keep bare metal from rusting. I know my brother tried 3-4 different products from WD-40 to a spay they use on aircraft metal. Gibbs was by far the best and lasted the longest. Gibbs also didn't leave a oily residue all over the truck like others did. He just had to keep applying it about every 3 months or so.
The other advantage to using Gibbs is that if/when you decide to paint it, you only need to prep it the same way that you would for the paint recommendations. AND, if Cole Foster uses it, it MUST be good.
It works pretty good if you use it on bare steel that's sitting in the garage, but if you put it on steel that goes out in the rain, it washes off after only a few rains and then the metal starts rusting really fast. A little bit of it does go a long way. It foams up when you spray it and it spreads out and soaks in really well. It works pretty well for loosening up stuck rusty screws and bolts too if you let it take its time.
Good stuff IMHO. Id get a few cans. Might just take one, but you will probably have to order it and have it shipped, so why not get extra for later. ROB
