We knew that W. L. Martin built/owned one of the koolest kustoms around and no one had
seen it for years. This weekend was the day that the truck was able to see the light of
day. The truck had been in his garage for over twenty five years and it is a project that
W.L has been working on since the early seventies. I’ve been trying to get W. L to bring
the truck to the Stray Kat 500 and he would say that it wasn’t good enough. The past
few years I gave up trying. Aaron has been talking to W. L. about his truck and reminding
him how kool it was. During last years show, W. L. talked to Carl Green, Gene Winfield and
Dave Stucky, he got all fired up and new life towards his truck. This is going to be the
year it will make its "Stray Kat" debut.

W.L. started working on the truck in the mid seventies in his one car garage using stuff
that he had or stuff that was giving to him from work or the local salvage. Like so many
original kustom builders, you use what you have. You don’t need expensive tools and parts
to build a kustom. All you need is the desire and patients to create something kool. The
truck sits on an altered ’73 GM chassis. It has been chopped 4 inches, sectioned four
inches and sectioned four inches. to name a few of the changes.

Aaron Lawrence (Fast Al’s Upholstery) and Rod Baughman (Gap Roads Customs) went over
to help W.L. get his truck out of his garage.

It is kool to have a friend with a roll back. (Thanks to Rod) Needles to say they caused quite a stir when they had it on the back of the roll back.

It wasn’t long and they had the truck started, W.L. is ready to go…..

After another trip to get the rest of the parts, they had the truck put together and was able to drive the truck around.

They have a lot of work to do before the show. Aaron will be handling the mechanical side and Rod will get it in one color so we will be able to checkout the purrfect proportions.

Congrats to Aarron and to Rod in helping W.L. out.

Stay tune for more pics, Stray Kat 500 is just around the corner.

Most custom pick ups end up looking tacky, but this one looks fantastic.

    Hey,

Do me a favor, buy Mr. Martin a good cigar!

That build is so hot, and I hope it gets finished JUST as the original builder invisioned, and not mugged or mollified.

    Great find & good luck!
