53 Starliners are cool stock. But the 60's custom style is not bad. the finas are little much but not completely horrendous.

It needs the weight of the motor to to get the 4X4 look gone and probably a couple inches out back. I'd drive it. Stick a 289 Ford in it for reliability and it might be fun daily driver. Still I wouldn't say it is worthmuch in that condition. Perhaps 500 bones

  3. Do***eted history can change everything. Look at it this way if the PknBner :D built it it would still be worth the 850 to a grand that any old abortion is worth (sorry fellas I'm from go fatser hot rod roots and they were called abortions in my family) but it it turned out to be an old winfield or a who ever your most respected custom guru happens to be the value would go way up. Catch my drift here?

I personally don't dislike it, it looks like someone really liked the hawk *** end and wanted the to do something really radical with the front. Its just not my kinda ride. To me an old roller project just isn't worth as much as a lot of you newer fellas think they are.

BTW I just happen to know where there is a rust free '53 with minor history is the guy that owns it is in for about nuthin way less than the 850 to a grand that I previously mentioned. But I doubt you could pry it away from him at this point he's given it away more than once and it keeps commin' home. He's decided to build it and drive it.

It's only worth waht somebody else will pay for it. If you can find somebody willing to part with the money you ask then that is what it is worth.

  5. I'm with you. I love Studes and this thing is rolling 50s original! I'd do a few changes, but once done, it could look killer.

that's what I'm talkin' about! late 50's early 60's kustom; woulda had gl*** in the rear. Looks like paint was flat in the pic, tho - the grille shell in the foreground is all shiny!

Yup I'd say it was an "under construction" display and still not done, but with a name (anyone have info on that guy? I don't know of him) there may be a story with it. I still like it but I'd still dice off the fins.

Now be honest...like it or not, doesn't finding this **** make you daydream just a little?

One more thing, I wonder what that AD truck in the show was like.

I think that car is great and like the styling from front to back. I think it will look great all fixed up. Don't listen to the haters. It's cool.

the opinions are all over the place on this thing. thats cool. some people just don't "get" a car like this and thats fine cause some people do.

i'd try to get it myself and finish it up if i was'nt ***hole deep in more projects than i can handle already. i like it more and more every time i look at it.

I get it....and like i said, the old picture looked good.

But people built ugly cars back then just as they do now. Just because it has history doesn't automatically mean it's cool, regardless of how rare it is finding such a car these days.

well... the 1961 pics make it all that much cooler. if it was built in say 1975 the coolness level would not be as high. if it were built from a stocker today I'd be wondering why they did the front that way. could have done many things to make it look better.

.. but it was built in 61... the custom car world was a different place. drag out your old musty magazines from this era and take a look. lots of ideas going on then that we would think of as odd today. in 61 quad lights were 3 -4 years old on most new cars. fins were fading on detroit iron, but if you took a trip over to the piggly wiggly the parking lot would be full of finned cars.

this car is very cool. hope it finds a good home.

I knew it had history! It's just too period correct in that goofy way to not be from the early 60's. It's amazing it survived without being "fixed". Aside from being a hidious orange, I wonder if it was ever finished? Looks like it has foil over the windows at the show, I understand they did that when the interior wasn't done.

It doesn't matter if anyone else likes it, just the person that's building/buying/trading it. As Hatch has said, it's the end result that matters and if you like what you've built. You have to start somewhere.

  27. Wow, someone took a great looking car and made it look like a Volvo P1800.

The suggested retail of $800 or so sounds about right to me.

Been watching this thread with amu*****t. I've got a stock-bodied '53 Stude, but have a warm spot for the '57 finned Hawk rears. Personally not a huge fan of the canted quad headlights, but it's definitely period correct.

If it were mine, I'd prolly change the front to eliminate the quads, & the oval at the back, but leave the fins - maybe a different taillight treatment.

Damn hard to improve on a '53, but I think '57 fins would...guess that's why I like the '58 Packard Hawk so much - even with the catfish mouth! ;)

Gotta admit - I think Skate Fink nailed it!

Its just that the 53 coupe is so damn fine lookin anyway why would anybody want to mess wid it? maybe take an inch or two out of the roof..its really worth what the guy walkin up the driveway is willing to give you for it..I paid 7000.00 for my 53 with a later model 289 Hawk V/8 and decent paint and upholstery, running and driving, and have been modifying it ever since....rixrex
