BARN FIND... After the barn collapsed

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by chopped51, Mar 14, 2009.

  1. Been sitting in a barn / shed for 20 years. It fell over in and windstorm 6 weeks ago. I hashed out a deal with the guy this morning. It's on it's way over here now on a flat deck. It's a 1951 Dodge Wayfarer coupe (2 seater) with get this...... 39,000 MILES!!! Still has the original tires. Scary. The guy stripped it to "restore" it. Every piece is in the car wrapped in newspaper. Still has the original flat six so I'm optimistic it'll run with a little elbow grease.
    The adventure begins..................

  7. Those business coupes have personality and can be really cool with a Hemi under the hood.

I always wanted one of the roadsters with side curtains instead of windows. The coupes are cool too, very neat to see a true business coupe after WWII. I second the hemi comment but I'm not sure they fit?

Can't say I honestly ever remember seeing one, but I like it. Good luck with it, sounds like a nice project for you.

  23. Baby steps.................
Rolled it in to the shop and un packed it. Parts are in great shape. Best news of all? Put power to the starter and it turns over like nothin! So I gotta get me a 6 volt battery and some key and start this baby up. Positive ground too. I get to learn how to make cool sparks!

stay optimistic on the starting. Found my 50 fleetline in a buddies gramp's garage. been sitting since mid 50's with around same mileage but wrecked. Was froze but broke her loose and ran the 216 six for better part of a year till I built a bigger heart for her. You got a nice find.

  28. I'll get a key cut for the ignition on Saturday and try and start it up..................

  29. OMG. The thing runs great!!! Little bit of coaxing, cleaning up the points, priming the carb.... little ruff at first but now she's running like a sewing machine. Can't even hear it idle. Gotta love it!
Now if I can just find reverse so I can get it back in the shop...............
