That is really cool, throw a drivetrain at it and have some tire shreddin` fun. That clip might be a one off.
Brett...that '37 Plymouth sedan was about the most solid car there, (along with the '65 Corvair), clean body, less motor & trans, but totally complete and decent, sold for $200! The guy that bought it has another one and at first was just going to use it for parts, but after looking at it closer, said he might just build it too! The Corvair was a Georgia car, red, red & white interior, auto, tinted glass, factory FM radio, and FACTORY AIR!!!...sit down, it went for $45!!! '37 Chevy coupe...no motor, trans, front fenders, or running boards, rough, but could have been saved...$80 '38 Chevy sedan...no motor, trans, front fenders, running boards, or front axle, rough body but nice doors, (?)...$60 '63 Plymouth Fury, 2-dr. hardtop coupe, complete, 318 Poly w/auto, but unibody was bent/broke at firewall, perfect for a full frame A/FX car...$160! plus, an O/T '69 Chevelle, no motor/trans, decent body w/ 12-bolt rear, factory buckets and SS hood...$900 All cars had titles too...
I forgot the 2 cars up by the house : '46 Plymouth 4-dr. sedan, very clean, Camaro subframe, small block Chrysler/auto, tilt...$110 '51 GMC, short, half-ton, panel truck, Camaro sub frame, SBC/auto, Ansen's, rough around the bottom, but, definitely fixable...$200
Now no one can wonder why your my hero. That coupe should be at Autorama JUST like you bought it. Maybe mocked up with a Poncho or hemi but not cleaned up or altered. Frank
Haha! Thanks Frank! I've been thinking about that for Autorama...I do have a 6-carb Pontiac motor sittin' around here somewhere...
It's an old chrome 3-point loop...the rear bar fit's into a sleeve on the loop with a pin, but they welded it to to the frame rails...
After 45 years in the fiberglass business, I can say that I never saw any company offering a Pontiac front end. Most likley the fellow had a contact with someone who might have been in the boat or trailer business who did some quickie splash molds and made his a set of parts. Pulling another set of quickie molds might not be the worst idea if you plan on actually racing the car. Probably not much of a demand for other sales.
damn ....my dad would have gave his leaft nut for the grill in that plymouth ...could not make it on sat ...thanks...
Brett...there was also a '36 grille shell with the grille, headlights and h/l stantions available separately...don't know if it sold or not...I can check, (don't know how close a '36 grille is to a '37)... Rich...it's actually a nice job on the front end, it's not a 1-piece, it's 4 separate pieces : 2 fenders, the nose, and the hood...there are flanges where the fenders and center piece bolt together, there are tabs on the center piece for the original grille's, the center piece has the radiator cover like the original, and the hood even has the reveal that matches the original on the doors and quarter's...I was pretty impressed with the detail of what was probably a one-off project...definately not a quick slop job for a race car... (The front end is just loosely hung on the car now, that's why the hood doesn't look like it fit's well in the pic)
Lucky guy! THose prices are crazy! I would have come home with them all at prices like that, then tried to find a place to put them!
Brother Randy...You got all the kool sh!t....The Corvair looked really nice!! Damn... Hows that Shoebox??..
...nice ol 39 coupe, it's cool as is and very different. Those sale prices were cheap! even I would've bought a few of em.
T..."I know dat's right!" Brother Tommy...I don't have ALL the cool stuff, I just get lucky every once-in-awhile...the shoebox is tarped up out back waiting for you to come and get it!

Well, kind of an update on the old Pontiac gasser...one of the original builders & owner's contacted me about the car! They saw it in the classified's here on the HAMB! Him and his partner are going to come out to my shop to see the car and bring a bunch of old photo's of it from 1965 when they built and raced it! Apparently, it ran C/Gas with a Hilborn injected small block and 4-speed...the fiberglass frontend was made by a company in Ohio, (he couldn't remember the name), after using the original Pontiac front clip for molds... ...the straight front tube axle w/ quarter elliptic spring suspension was designed by his partner, and built by a friend of their's that built one for himself also to run on his '40 Willys gasser! I'll get more info, and see if they'll let me scan the photo's, after I meet with them next week...
