57 Chevy year end. Looks to be set up for a Chevy small block and a power glide. Craftsmanship is good. No mig welds. I found it in Hastings Nebraska. That's all I know.
Is the steering wheel homemade? It's wild looking. Dash looks like it might be out of a Jeep. Body is neat, it's got potential.
Cool! It kinda looks like it wants a long engine like a straight 6 or 8. Something about the proportions.
Fix it up like it should be. It needs new paint ect. leveing it screwed up is rat rod **** an very brian dead,so would be great disrepect too old hotrod. Patina is a Franch word for bad an needs fixing. There is nothing cool about rust.
I'd preserve as much of it as possible. It doesn't look like it ever had a decent paint job, so why mess with the patina (which, by the way, is not a French word meaning what you said it does). Spelling and grammar are cool, too.
Good grief, it's a piece of **** that is about 6" away from the crusher and you'd like to preserve it ? In the immortal words of Bugs Bunny, "What a cad" , "What an ultra Maroon".
Totally agree. Plus I'll add in that whole steering arrangement other than the wheel (which, BTW also needs paint) looks like **** and is a death trap for the driver if he rear ends someone. This can and should be built into a neat little rod, but it needs a completew teardown, mockup to a somewhat near complete body/driveline, suspension/steering setup. Then a teardown and PAINT!!!!!!!!!! Then when you re***emble you won't have to wear one of those wrestler's masks to hide your iden***y when you drive it.
I like it....will be a fun little rod when a 'few' upgrades are applied....sure looks like a fun project!!!
If the taillight has a bump on the back, it's 37-38 Chevy car...if it's flat on back, its 40-46 (maybe later as well) Chevy truck. Nice find!
I personally wouldn't paint it, I would pay someone else to paint it. Its got potential for sure and its steel to boot. We'll see where it goes before we beat you up too bad.
Coming from Nebraska, the long steering shaft idea probably came from a farm tractor. Might have some trouble keeping oil and water in the engine after drilling the long diagonal hole through it for the steering shaft to p*** through. If it was mine, I'd forget about the rust and rattle can paint and make a nice clean 60's style hot rod of it. In my opinion, a little rust looks fine on a complete unrestored driver like my 29 sedan, but if you are building a car fix the f**king thing right.
This is from Merriam Websters as to the origin of the word and even their most up to date definition does not include rust and decay. Italians began using "patina" in the 17th century to refer to the green film that is produced on the surface of copper. They borrowed the word from Latin, where it means "a shallow dish." (Presumably, the Italian meaning developed from the observation of such film forming on copper dishes.) By the mid-18th century, English speakers were also calling the green film "patina." And by the early 20th century, "patina" was being used in English for the gloss of polished metals, like silver, as well as wooden furniture - a meaning that led to its literary use for a surrounding aura, as demonstrated in this quote from Stella Gibbons' Cold Comfort Farm (1932): "The very atmosphere seemed covered with a rich patina of love."
I am not sure if anyone has actually looked but all there is for steering is just the wheel and a long shaft that hangs out past the front cross member, there is no steering box yet.
