almost forgot that I installed fuel regulator so motor now runs at idle.
it's on jack stands so I ran it Thru the gears and clutch works perfect!
and trans gears are fine... but at this point it doesn't surprise me.

A car like this with all the history that goes with it is really a great find. I'd love to find something this nice!

    My bad.
I retract ALL statements regarding Jack Merkel and the rod snappers. I consulted with my 77 yr old friend, and he told me the same thing he always did, that the coupe belongs to Frank Merklin. Sad part is he, at 77, is sharper than I am at 49...

ok, I just got off the phone with Marty himes. he is the owner of the himes car museum in bay shore and retired stock car driver.
he went to school with john breen (owner/builder) of the little monster and remembers the car and him well. he even knows the house where the car was built at!
he said that he bought his first race car from john and is sending me pictures of it as it has johns name painted on the door and johns girl friends name painted on the hood.....
he is going to talk with johns old girlfriend who still lives in town to see what she remembers? and may have some more pictures.
he is also talking to more old rod snapper friends of johns and sending me copies of the rod snappers history. he sounds like he is a wealth of knowledge about the local racing of that time.
this is getting very exciting!!!! Marty has been very helpful on the phone and is very nice for helping me and I thank him in advance for his help....he is also excited to see his old friends car again especially with so much documentation.. he tells me "you have a very rare find here" witch also makes for more excitement.
so hang on guys this rides only going to get better!

  15. Marty would know if the car came from the Island, especially Freeport. I run into Marty once in a while and I'll ask him about the car.

  16. I'm in Mars once in a while. They still have a load of odd stuff if you ask for it. They used to distribute lots of obscure speed goodies like Wolverine cams. They still have the entrance in the back, not sure if they still make up exhaust parts though. They had this garage that opened up into the lobby by the rear entrance and could whip up any y-pipe for any car. They did one for my '64 Ford.

Marty himes sent me some info that he had on the rod snappers.
Marty owns a car museum on long island and was good friends with John breen...
he bought his first race car from John.... it's in the last pic.
it has Johns name on the door and his girl friends on the hood.
this article was in hop up that featured the rod snapper on how
to set up a hot rod garage.
this is the garage that the little monster
    probably was built in.

Very cool. If I were you, I'd keep it and charge museums to loan/show it. That way you can still own it. Don't sell it. You'll be sorry, and the family might not be to fond of that after all the work they are doin for you.

I wish I could see it in person!
