Ey, Rocky...wanna watch me pull a rabbit outta my hat? What the hell ya doin, man! Ain't talked to you in a while, but that truck looks familiar. Glad to see it on the road.
Yeah...what he said! And if you take out the Nailhead and put a bowtie in it I'll never speak to you again.
Hell, all I can find in the barns are rats and spiders. Well, there was this one barn when I was a kid and this little blonde girl...never mind
Way cool! Great find. Like everyone else is saying, get it mechanically right and leave the body like it is. That way the history would live on longer with original paint.
I vote for the resto to original race condition. Damn fine find!! Uh... featured HAMB article on this one? Ryan? Anyone?...
Rarely do I use this word... BITCHIN!... the truck, the history finding out the "rest-of-the-story"... all of it... absolutely BITCHIN!
Cool truck, Have fun with it and get your friends and family involved. Document everything!!! When you look back, have no regrets about taking pictures (don't get lazy) organize scrap books, reciept folders, whatever it takes to keep you motivated. Remember.... it's your truck now.
Possibly be in talks with Mr. Morris and get his views on what he thinks should be done with it. I know it's not his anymore, but out of respect it would be nice to get his opinion, or atleast have him turn some wrenches and help build it back! After all, he knows the car better than anyone. That being said, do as you wish, but I think a restoration is in store. It looks way too nice back then to let it sit looking anything other than original.
Mr Morris for some strange reason does'nt seem to be too bothered by the whole deal. However he did say that he was glad that someone got it that is going to preserve it. And yes the origional 401 is going back in. It has been very well documented as far as numbers and letters for the resto. when Im done it will look just like the B&W photos with ALL the origional pieces. Here is a photo of it the way it sits now. Im going to take it to the Jalopy Drags for display then Waynesboro for a re-unite with Jim then it will go back into the garge for awhile.
that thing is so far out fantastic its unreal, you stepped on the lucky shit big time ..lucky little bastard. My vote mechanical and preserve.l wanna see it go go go.
One more pic. I wish I knew how you guys were uploading larger pics. Every time I try it says its too big.
I always keep re-sizing the picture until it's just small enough. It doesn't make it much bigger than yours, but a little bit helps. Or you could open a photo hosting account and post full size pictures from there.
Man, that is one freaking cool project you have there. Not only a well documented piece of history, but you have the builder to fill in the blanks. Bring it back to it original state and run it every chance you get.
It just keeps getting better. Ran into a guy from Churchville (near Waynesboro) who is a BIG nostalgia drag freak. He has hundreds of old drag photos from VA. and you guessed it, he had some of my truck. He also has press releases from the 1964 World Championships at Richmond. It has all of the times and speeds of the truck and who he raced. Ill get copies of those soon.
I'll bet it looks wicked mean with the injector stacks and all. great find. edit, just saw the updated photos, amazing indeed.
My buddie just sent me these. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/...tGjNo5ctmLkQ&auto=0&idx=1&m=1&d=1190826070212
Man, things like this really make me wish I didn't live in Southern California where everybody thinks that and rusted old car in the backyard is a "hot rod". This thing is amazingly cool as everybody has already stated.
you were born 20 years too late... I used to know of dozens of prewar cars in NZ stuck away on farms,in garages etc( I went to School with Brownie in TeKuiti,he found a 32 five window in a shed at Tuamaranui). And as my family came from the far north,I used to see Models A's being used as every day transport right into the late 70's on my holidays at the beach.
