Tonight is the first of 24 hrs of coverage of the Scottsdales auction. Starts at 7pm est. I watched the preview last night to see some of the cars. about 900 cars, some really outstanding and unique.

Will be see crazy prices again.? Will any hotrod top the $400,000 mark, maybe the Airflow? Will any of the Boyd cars (4 I think) bring any money?

Oh well, just wanted to remind folks.

I'm looking forward to it. I'm a voyeur. I want to peek in the window to see how the rich and famous live. I don't begrudge them for being rich. This is the big leagues and I'm a sand lot player. Well maybe a sand lot bench jokey.

I suppose this is where everyone that is jealous bitches about the prices. Not me. Those prices for those cars have no effect on me and I really don't want to trade places.

I do love seeing the old classics, muscle cars and hot rods all in one place. I'll be glued to the set.

  3. Its a farce. Barrett convinces folks to sell at no reserve. If your car isnt close to meeting what you think it worth, you gotta bid on it to "buy" it from the high bidder while you still pay over 12% in commission fees AND Az taxes. Lots of those anguished "bidders" you see are guys buying their own car!

I'll be heading out to Barrett Jackson tomorrow. It's just a big, cool car show to me. Alway lots of cool stuff there and always some things that you'll never see anywhere else. In past years, I've kicked the tires on two different Tuckers, Duesenbergs, concept cars from the fifties and last years highlight, kicked the tires on Bob Harop's '61 Pontiac Catalina super stock drag car. Bitchin' stuff for sure.

I like to watch it too. Some stuff goes really cheap and some stuff goes insanely high for some reason.

It is an auction, it all depends on what 2 morons you have bidding on the car. Kind of like the ex-wrestler who just kept saying "I'm buying that car" last year while the price got run up his ass on a 69 Camaro for $112,000.

Is'nt is some rediculous amount just to get in the door at a BJ auction? I guess they don't want a bunch of hoodlums like us just walking around looking like we're going to steal some hubcaps or something.....

Ya, it aint' cheap to get in as a spectator ($25 last year), but where else are you going to get upclose looks at Duesenbergs, Peirce Arrows, Facel Vegas, Dual Ghias, Aston Martins, D type Jaguars, Tuckers, R code Galaxies, Allarrds, Kiaser Darrins, Barris Customs, '32 Pontiac w/ Pontiac flathead V8, on and on...all in one place? I've gone to Barrett Jackson every year since I moved here in '95, it's always been worth the price at the gate. Besides, $25 is still cheaper than a baseball game, and I'd much rather go see cars than go se baseball.

  8. Hey Mike !
Couldn't agree more...I'd also prefer the auction......better wear your tire kickin boots then...... Have fun...I'm off to the garage right now... the '53 wants me !

I'm surprised to see Rick Dore's "Tangerine Dream" 36 Ford custom (on of my favorites) going up with no reserve. Remember a couple years ago at BJ when Dore's "Majestic" 49 Caddy sedanette went no-reserve for something like $28,000? He looked sick.

Shortly after, some mullet-man paid over $130,000 for a 70 Dodge charger.

Makes no sense to me. I mean you'd think the guy would get home, sit in the car and go "shit, I just shelled out $130k for a 70's Chrysler product, when I coulda been styling in a beautiful custom caddy for $100,000 LESS!"

I like watching it cause some of the girls are pretty solid that try to convice the bidders to bid again or go higher. :)

The announcers need to research the cars BEFORE the go up though- half the time they are stalling cause they run out of things to say, or don't know anything about the car.

Yeah, the announcers kind of pissed me off last year. There was a nice looking 50s Mercury that a High School auto shop restored for the auction- to raise money for their shop. It looked like a very nice stock restoration. All the announcers did was put it down and berate it, saying that they weren't surprised that the final bids were only around $10,000. Well, it was nicer than most of my "dream cars" and I thought that they were just being assholes. I could understand if it was really a turd, but it looked very nice on TV.

No Reserve, thats the rules, I do not feel sorry for them. The owners chose to take a chance at the big money. There are so many bidders there that a car has to go for what it is worth (fair market value).. No one is going to let a "good" deal get away (to many dealers). Ya, that may not be what the owner wanted but it is probably a fair price

I was checking prices on line and it looks like they are strong so far. but also surprised me at the number of under $20k cars that sold today, granted this is the slow day of the 4 days.

Of all the cars they have shown the 55 yellow and white Chevy is one of my favorites. Anyone who has seen that car knows how super detailed it is (I think its the best 55-57 out there) and nicer then 95% of the car ever built.

If I had to much money, buying Chezoon and turning it in a Custom with flake roof, hubcaps/ white walls and tuck n roll interior would be a fun excerise in styling.

I really dont like the B-J auction, Its cool to see cars the are rare but I hate that the cost of old cars are going through the roof. The best thing I saw on one of the B-J shows was where they said the 54 chevy wasnt worth investing it, to buy a merc or ford insted. I loved that cause I really dig those chevys.

That would be fun to get hold of a real high-profile, high-end, name-builder street rod and then go heavy-handed old school on it, just to see the reaction.

No joke....I can't believe in all the years they've been looking at these cars, and within the last few years watching them come across the auction block.....they had no idea what the prism on the dashboard for seeing stop lights was.

Their favorite word this year must be "resto-mod." That dumbass Alan englishprick (no offence to the non prick english on the board) was bitching about a couple Holley carbs on a flathead in a one off boat-tail roadster. Uh...yeah man.....thats totally not correct...what a piece of shit car!

Do these guys even know what a real nostalgia car is (or what there even talkin about) I watched them sale a 40 deleuxe coupe they kept talkin about how it was a nostalgic type car and stuff. HECK the only thing on that car nostalgia was the steel wheels.

But I still like to watch it.And if i had a dollar for every time they said "resto-mod" I would be making more than they are on the auction.

The show is an infomercial bought and paid-for to promote the auction service.

After working this event so many years , that also started in a busted up ole baseball parking lot , way diff now that i am on the other side of the fence , spectator now employee or worker . I am very glad i can sit on my couch and laugh at these dopes that pay the prices .Like that 4 dr chevy w/ the 409 4 sp  and over 100 K for a new 05 international big duty truck . Gee ,wish i won the 300 mil loto too .I did dig most of the time i worked there cuz i got to drive some very cool cars . Even got to drive a tucker and a monster truck "everybody else was too chicken ". If your frugal you could get away to just goin to the event by yourself for 60-100 bucks . Have fun mike , i am broke :( . The real cool free show is all around town at the local cruz's  BACK TO SPEED CHANNEL .

  21. Why does the term resto-mod make me grit my teeth? Catch phrase TV, sorta like Hot Rod mag, always looking for another catch phrase. I kept waiting to see the 4 door coupes as they always mentioned the 2door ones???. They know a lot about muscle cars, but don't know crap about hot rods or customs. That made up 28-9 Vicky had them scratching their heads. Said they don't see many of them rodded. No shit, they never made them. Morons. Nice cars though. Just turn the sound off and it is not bad. I hate the Barrett Jackson Auction!
But I do like to watch, so I can see the bitchen cars and stupid ass people. As a matter of fact im watching right know and some jack off just played $100.000 for a 67 442.

I hate it because I firmly believe BJ has single handedly almost totally blown the small time guy out of the market. Now almost everybody that’s not living under a rock thinks there old cars are solid gold.
I think these fat cats on BJ are basically just a bunch of show offs, getting there jollys at the little guys expense. I wish I knew one of um.

I first noted this when I went to the Turlock swap meet a few days after the BJ was on TV for the first time. All of a sudden cars and parts were up about 30 percent.

I’m going to Turlock this weekend, but its mostly just out of boredom. I know all im going to see is over priced whatever with its owner saying “ I could get blah $ blah $ blah on ebay or………………..” On the other hand I might get lucky and run into BJ.

It's nothing more than E-Bay live and on TV. Where else can you see the "more money than brains" crowd match egos and bank accounts with each other. I love watching it. It's a good laugh.:)

  24. I wish that was my problem,,,,,,"more money than brains",,,

    I loved the Model A,,,,,the 56 nomad,,,,and several others!

My biggest complaint is all the damn commercials,,,show two cars,,,then 9 friggin' ads,,,,,,,,,,,,,I'm gonna tape it tonight! HRP

  25. I do enjoy watching it and looking at it from an investors point of view seeing prices climb on these cars is encouraging.

But I have to admit BJ company is starting to make it look alot like BIg TIme Wrestling.

Hey, what else you gonna watch on TV this weekend.200 channels and nothin' on !!!! B&J is entertainment for me. I laugh,I get pissed off,I get disgusted,I get excited.
Anyone know anything about that hotrod Lincoln boat tail that went off last night?? They didn't spend enough time explaining that one.

My favorite line from last night's show: They are talking about the houndstooth interior in the back '69 Camaro and the limey says"I used to have a suit made out of that material." or something like that.

Part of the fun is listening to the "experts" make fools of themselves.
    Sit back,relax and enjoy!!!!

  28. It just doesn't make sense to me that the black 67 427/435hp
Vette sold for 151K? (to name one of the many that sold for too much). How can B.J. say that is an "investment"? I can see it possibly being worth 60K or something like that maybe. The new owner will never be able to re-sell it for that much.

  29. Don't even get me started! These rich fucks that don't know shit about cars have found a new playground, and it's OURS! I see a 67 Camaro with the 375HP 396 RS-SS, hideaway lights, top dog motor, four speed, Marina Blue go for $37.000. Next, and right after it goes a 67 Impala, bench seat, 283 go for $34.000. There's no fucking way whatever price is on these cars that they should ONLY be seperated by $3.000. Ridiclous! My point is there is no ryhme or reason to these auctions, except they're ruining it for us, that just fucking LOVE the cars. I can't wait for a HICCUP in the economy so these guys get caught in the musical chairs syndrome. It happened late 80s early 90s, it'll happen again! With the outrageous prices i think the crash will be worse this time. 15 years ago, a friend of mine bought a Hemi Cuda, Boss 429 Mustang, and an LS-6 Chevelle. These were considered the BIG 3 by some. NICE cars at not so bad prices. Boy, he lost his ass so bad, he couldn't find it with both hands! He also bought a 67 tri-power Vette for $75.000. After the crash he had to put almost 10K in it to sell it for $43K!

seems like muscle cars are comanding the highest bids.

Conversely speaking, the black 1967 427 vette sold for $151k. A black 1966 427 convertible sold right after it for $147k.

Do ya think the guy who bought the first vette is pissed?
