Those bidders ate up the "attention" from her. Don't know whether their grins we're from being the winner bidder or from her touching them. [IMG]

  2. I watched it last night and I thought that plastic 37 coupe went cheap. The guys on Speedvision dont know shit about hotrods but thats ok, I dont know shit about jags and Ferraris.

  3. I got so ticked watching the morons with their senseless babbling that I emailed them and suggested it would be nice with all the hot rods there if they could have someone that knows something about them as an announcer in the booth. They said a steel 37 with a flathead like the Minotti one would be worth more. Since they never made a steel 3 window maybe they were rite. The comment about the stock 50 rag with the Y-block was good to. I thought the British guy knew more about American cars than that moron Brock Yates. Is he really that stupid. Prices were really down this year. Incorrect cars were a bargain. Nutz

I agree the British guy doesn't know that much about American cars but he sure knows his shit about European cars! Have you ever watched the program where he drives the hell out of classic Ferrai's, Bugatti's, Alfa Romeo's..? He knows the details of those AND he can drive 'em too!
Notice the guy that bought the Chevy stake truck also bought the '47 Fleetline convertible? Must be nice......

36 Couper, that series is called "Victory by Design" and it really does kick ass. It is one of the few shows that Speed has on (sunday evenings) that is worth watching.

I accused Alain De Cadenet of making the remark above about that nice looking 54 Mercury being a "project." I caught it again last night and it was, in fact, one of the other idiots. Then the assholes continued to make remarks about how the car was not really worth that much because a restorer would have "alot of work to do to it" but for now it was a "good driver."
Hey douchebag, what was the car built for 50 years ago? I just bet the boys at Mercury may have actually intended for that particular car to be driven.
When the auction was over, they make the remark that "oh well, it's for a good cause."
SHIT, they made this thing out to be Charlie Brown's Christmas Tree, and it was a really nice car!

  8. Gotta love .. got a tape in the VCR .. 6 hrs of humor & drooling

  9. They cant know everything about everything! Seriously, are the hotrods there cool enough to really need a pro to call the shots? NO.

Fuck the hotrods, I think its cool to have a few beers and watch the big American classics sell. I love when that show is on. I wish it was alwas on instead of the WWF racing and gay ass talk shows they have.

The English Guy's show about Ferraris and Porsches is the best stuff on TV. No bullshit at all, fucking awesome.

He is CHEAP. But so is Jerry.
I know someone who just walked in the side last year. (to the right of the ticket booth there was a walkway) He just acted like he knew where he was going.

Oh yeah, there is no way I am going to watch it on TV with the sound on. Those guys were idiots. They didn't know crap about cars. That would be like me trying to do a sportscast!! [IMG]

    Though I agree with 36couper:
"Have you ever watched the program where he drives the hell out of classic Ferrai's, Bugatti's, Alfa Romeo's..?"

That is my favorite show. An hour of this guy driving Ferraris on crooked roads....yeah baby.

Not to change the topic BUT I gotta stick up for Jerry even though I know you guys are teasing him. [IMG] Jerry is sooooo generous he offered to ship an extra calendar he had to another HAMB member who's calendar got lost in the mail, and I had no more left to replace it with. I offered for the HAMB to reimburse him not only for the calendar but the shipping and he wouldn't hear of it! Great guy! The calendar got to its distination without a hitch.

There were a couple of others that did the same thing and as soon as tech week is over I think I'll do a thank you post to publicly pat those guys on the back.

yep that Alan DeCadaneux..whatever....is a pompous ass.....just finished watching and funny thing is....... ALOT of those billet cars dont command real big money. They sold Lil Johns Buttera's 27 seedan and it only went for around low 30 something.......they were trying to pass it off as a historic rod.......anything built in the seventys aint historic..it's horrific [IMG]

Man that auction is GOLD CHAINER CENTRAL!!!!!!!!

  16. Nice call on the "Gold Chainer Central" line Brush... Barrett Jackson does attracted some nice cars but their all window dressing! These cars are like most of those " Gold Chainers"..all show and no go".. unless on a trailer for the car or a beach chair for the owner at a cruise.

  17. You guys see that guy in yellow buy that yellow camero for $112,000!!!!! [IMG]

the yellow guy also payed $60,000 or so for a '67 (?) Corvette roadster. Nearly $200,000 for two cars. Some people have more money than they apparently know what to do with.

If you tried hard enough...you could buy 10 '32 Fords of various body styles for that much.

  19. Yeh, the guy in yellow was a riot, but my favorite so far was the real OLD guy that looked like he came from a TENN. mtn top and bought that nice cream yellow Hudson vert for 80K. Didn't look like he'd live long 'nuff to get it home. Stand by .. 6 more hrs of fantasy to go !! It's either this or go out and stand in the snow. Another bloody mary please .... dear !

  20. I happen to watch Victory by Design, that guy is good on there. But, he is out of his league with American cars. Brock Yates? For a guy that just had 2 cars in Street Rodder, you would think he was a little sharper. What they are showing is entertainment, which we have to take with a grain of salt. Since they are aiming their demo at cae guys however, I feel that our constuctive criticism is waranted.

As for some of those buyers, many folks HIRE a nondescript guy to buy for them. There are even "cartels" that buy for wealthy clients that dont have the time nor desire to mingle with the masses. Think sheiks, movie stars, dictators etc.........

  21. Actually they interviewed the guy inthe yellow jacket and he said it was his job to buy cars.

    Cool job eh [IMG]

Must be rough, spending other peoples money, wearing cool yellow sport coats, must be the life! [IMG]

  23. I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who deals cars and has a winter place in Arizona who went up there. His take on it was,"A bunch of drunken millionaires who are hell-bent on driving the prices of collector cars right out of sight".A couple of examples:a 2-tone blue 56 Chevy dual-quad motor ragtop that fetched 103 large!A 67 Vette big block at 135 large,The aforementioned Camaro,a Pink Cuda with a 383 4-speed at nearly a 100large! These f**kers probably feed those 12 dollar burgers to their dogs!

Watching the guy in the yellow jacket bid on that Camaro was like watching a WWF match. Did you see the spit and slobber coming out of his mouth when he was bidding? What a knucklehead! What does loving your wife and kids have to do with winning a bid on a car?? Pompous ass.
Speaking of pompous, the worst guy is the head guy, whatever his name is--he is either Barrett or Jackson. I can't remember. Seeing him jump up and down when the bidding gets hot makes me sick. That fucker is making money on both ends; buyer and seller. If he was at all humble, he would sit there and enjoy the show and not look like a greedy bastards when he claps.

Here's a little blurb on the British/French guy....

    "Quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Alain De Cadenet - Bio
    Birthplace: London
    Residence: England/France

Alain de Cadenet made his reputation building and driving his own sports racing cars, taking-on the full "works" factory teams and, at times, even beating them. In 1976 he came third overall at Le Mans, which made his mark and in 1980, won two rounds of the World Sports Car Championship (Monza 1000k and Silverstone 6-Hours). At that time, this was considered a major achievement in an era of increasing professionalism, when it was unheard of for a self-funded privateer to take-on the "big boys" and win.

Alain is also one of the most respected and accomplished racers of classic and vintage cars and, during the course of his driving career, has owned and raced some truly important machines, particular in the marque of Alfa Romeo. Now, during the course of shooting six "Victory by Design" shows, it's probably safe to say that Alain has driven more different and important racing cars than any person in history.

In addition to his passion for cars, Alain is also an avid collector of motor cycles and airplanes (including a WW2 Spitfire). For many years he was also a collector and authority on George V stamps, even advising the British Postal Service on their collection. Alain's knowledge of vintage wines and period stills cameras is also formidable. He is genuinely a 21st century "renaissance man".

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------"

Mom...can I be him when I grow up? PLEASE!

Alain is rightfully OUT of our league...and it doesn't bother me to say that! I think it's below him to even be on the "floor" at the auction.

I have even found myself watching the commercials because I don't want to miss anything.

...So there I was, doing "my part" and watching their commercials but when they came back I had to let loose a loud stream of profanity. They showed the last few seconds of an auction and were rolling away with one of the most beautiful deuce roadsters I have ever seen! I was pissed that we didn't get to hear the full "9-yards" on this sweet piece of machinery.

They did mention that it was a 32 with hand fabricated body panels (The boattail was dead give away that this thing was not exactly stock ). Lookin' up the details at the Barrett Jackson web site revealed that this roadster is motivated by a 296 cid Flattie with an Ardun conversion! Hotttttttt.
