70 cars are going to be auctioned on the 14 may from Barris's personal collection at the Peterson Museum.
"These are mostly reserve cars because I have several duplicates in my 200-car collection," said Barris. "For example, we made 32 General Lees for The Dukes Of Hazzard and I have three. I have to pay high storage and insurance for the cars and its time to cut back some of the duplicates."

The auction will feature Ma and Pa Clampetts Jalopy from the Beverly Hillbillies and the Munster Koach built for the second series of the show. Also up for grabs is one of the KITT Trans-Am from Knight Rider, the Flintmobile, a 55 from American Graffiti, '58 Plymouth from Christine, a DeLorean from Back To The Future and six cars from The Fast and The Furious including the '68 Charger, plus many of Barris's show cars.
It was also hoped that the auction would include one of the original Batmobiles, but this has already been sold privately.

I do not fully understand the details on the 55 chevy. It said it was used for the crash scene but later it says it was not wrecked. So was the third one rolled over and burned. Then why have a second. Why no so the original get squirelly and then have the third one roll over and burn

So did the second one (the one for sale) get used and if so for what purpose

You'd think a fancy big-name auction house selling well-known high-value items could do better research and proofreading.

Somebody is going to get hosed on that '55 Chev. That is the most bullsh*t tie-in to a movie that I've ever heard. They say it was towed for the crash scene, but it's lettered that it was driven by Harrison Ford.?????

    Quote from HRM, June 2005.

"The relationship apparently had not cooled off by 1975, by which time George had created the likes of the Batmobile, the Munster Coach, and the Black Beauty..."
That sentence implies that George built those Cars, right??

In about 3 minutes of Google research, you can read that the Batmobile was Built by Bill Cushenberry, and the Black Beauty was done by Dean Jeffries.

I would have expected a lot better research from Hot Rod Magazine...

Shortbull. the car on fire is not a 'hardtop'. It is a sedan. Also, the first picture--in the movie, there was no front bumper. I saw the movie in San Angelo Texas when it came out.

Many Old Cars, take a closer look at the burn car. It has been disquised as a post car using a fake pillar made of wood.

  20. I'd have the Starsky & Hutch car, grew up loving that show. :)

And if it was the white version of 'Greased Lightning' that would be cool too. But actually customising a car using the lyrics of a song written by someone with absolutely NO idea is a recipe for disaster.

Probably why you only ever saw 5% of the car right at the end of the movie.

check the picture in that listing, it's of a '79, and notice that the one listed has NO CONNECTION to the movie. what a load of ****! as someone wiser than me said, "The innocent shall suffer, big time..."

I know you guys were all drooling over the Fast and Furious cars. But, I myself want the collection of Seuss cars. Especially the Whoville Public Works one. There is no finer custom I can imagine. But I'd have to bag it.

"This black Trans Am, although not used in the feature film, was designed to replicate the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey & the Bandit as a test car and personal stunt car by Barris."

"The Trans Am is the most recognizable car from the film, with which this example is ***ociated."

again, WTF does this car have to do with the movie? answer: absolutely nothing, it's just a T/A being (slightly) misrepresented as a 'movie' car. the picture in the listing is a production still from SATB-II and a Turbo T/A to boot.

George is surely a shrewd guy, and it was probably a smart investment strategy for him to acquire a bunch of movie and TV cars.

It's kinda sad to me, though, that my one-time-hero sells a collection of 70 cars, and there is NOT ONE that I would have any interest in owning.

Whatever became of the Barris-built Dodge roadster on the cover of Hop Up #1?
