Fantastic job on the diorama, one of the best I have seen in a long, long time! You in your dead should be very proud of it. You could try looking Barris Customs up on Google, I have no idea if he even has a shop anymore? That would be one way to get in touch with him.

Love the coffee table idea! Model railroaders will build dioramas or even a whole layouts inside of a coffee table, I even have one article where they built a layout inside of their kitchen table, the tabletop has a glass center so you can look down on the layout while you eat. Some would hit the thrift stores to look for a coffee table the appropriate size and then refinish it, can save some money that way. If you do do that, pleased post pictures.

This thread is so cool. Great dad/son project and really good job taking the pictures and writing captions so slow people like me could follow along. You remind me of me when I growing up building models except you are 1000% better.

By the way Matt, I'd love to see the finished piece photographed outdoors. Set it up on the roof of a car or somewhere high so you get the natural skyline in the background. Also fun if there are trees or poles in the far distance which would give your Barris World an even more realistic look.

  24. Wow thanks guys! Part 2 Huh? I guess that we will have to do the Larry Watson job. I will have to try and get a heap of photos and get Matt to start studying. Oh, he is a happy lad, he got his Kiwi konnection '32 frame & SoCal axle yesterday, what a start!

Just changing the subject a little, we are all busy here looking at our new '39 coupe that arrived just yesterday after a long import process. I will start a new thread on it as I would like to get a little history of it if I can, and there aint no better place on earth to get info than on this great site. Thanks again all!

Ridiculous! I love it! I hope you make that coffee table. If you do you should get some of these Mid Century style tapered legs, maybe stain them pretty dark. (they make those legs in quite a few different lengths.) Also cut the glass so its not really a perfect square. What I mean by that is kind of round the sides and corners so they are perfectly straight, like this.

I think doing the table like that would really add to the 60s style of the diorama! Keep us updated if you make the table.

Congratulations!. Have you considered writing the story for one of the scale modeler's magazines?.
