I've been super busy the last few days wrapping up a few projects here in the house and I've actually been able to sit and watch TV as I work. I don't get to do that very often. I'm a big fan of old TV, so when I do watch television it's usually old shows. Tonight I was watching the Twilight Zone and I noticed a kustom on the show. It was toward the end of the episode (which was "Third From the Sun", which first aired January 8, 1960). It showed 5 people cruising in a kar. The first thing I noticed was the wide whites and kool hubcaps with extra flipper bars and what looked to be a color chromed or painted bullet in the center of it. The camera then goes from the wheel to show the driver. That's when I noticed a low hardtop roofline and no door handles. A few minutes later they show the kar pulling up to a gate and I could see the headlights were frenched. There is a small fight scene that follows a few minutes later and you can see the kar is a two-tone, but it's hard to tell what kolor with the show being in black and white. In the next few scenes you get some great views of the kar as it flies into the shot and skids to a stop under a flying saucer. (You notice that the right front fender slams into a barrel or something--looks like it hit it pretty hard!) There are search lights moving around and a beam of light hits the kar and you get a pretty good look at it. The door is left open and you get a good look back towards the kar from the rear. It looks to have kustom door panels--definitely not stock. To me, it looks like the Lyle Lake '52 Buick, more popularly known as the Blue Danube. It has the same taillights, but the chrome trim looks like it had been changed. Also, the hubcaps are different than the ones that are on the kar in all the pictures I found. It has the zooty spinners on the front, and looks like Moon discs on the back. You can never get a good look at the front of it, so that remains a mystery. I wish there was more footage. Has anyone else seen it? I'm posting a few pictures of the Buick from Rikster's Custom Car Photo Archive, as well as the last part of the episode that I was lucky enough to find on YouTube. (Isn't the internet wonderful?) Look it all over and you decide. I'd really like to know for sure if this is the Blue Danube. E http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_vzDsSB-SU
I didn't know that it was on The Twilight Zone. I've added itto one of my favorites. Thanks for the heads up. One of our Klub members Dick Huckans did a lot of work on Jack walkers Clone. I can only imagine what it would look like in Kolor. Its kool that the back side of the saucer matches the hubcaps. Happy Trails, Mick
That last shot looks like a cover shot on a old Custom Mag I wish I still Had ...Had article showing the work of Dean Jefferies...wish I had it. Funny how you don't forget
