About 14-15 years a ago a good friend of mine from Iowa, his 16 year old son was fighting cancer. We are into drag racing and his son was a huge Shirley Muldowney fan.
Shirley was match racing at Firebird here in Phoenix one weekend. I caught her at her trailer and told her about my friend's son. Not only did she give him a 'get well' message on my video camera, she signed hats, sweat shirts, t-shirts, posters, every single souvenir item she was selling. She gave them all to me for him and would not accept one nickle. She is a cl*** act.

have freakin' tried 3 times to say something here and every time my message goes to outer space and I'm getting real upset here!!! gggrrr.....Not real compuker literate so will make one more attempt....Had a great time at the Winfield/Watson show and all I can say is that the REAL WORKERS of our hobby...The Winfields, Watsons, Grabowskis, Himsles, Hines...etc..etc...Do not charge for their autographs and they were having a blast giving them away!!! They are OUR HEROES...I was wondering if when you get REAL old if you'd want to start charging for the autograph as maybe it HURTS so much to write and then I saw Billy Hines signing away for free @ 86 +....You guts are AWESOME...Thanx....Randy

  6. bashing on our heros is called the tall poppy syndrome in my country. can you imagine how many people want autographs and some peoples requests would be downwrite strange. i guess he would get sick of it and charging would be one way to justify putting up with the strange requests. we need heros and bashing them on line ****s to me. im well known in my town and im always hearing ******** stories about what im sposed to have done. i mainly ignore them. i have to signitures of famous drag racers from down under on one of my club caps. one from ausy is now doing time for drugs and the kiwi guy went bankrupt. sigs aint really my thing. all stories aside, id like to thank mr barris for his contribution to our hobby/ lifestyle.

  13. I was standing 5 feet away from the man, I heard every word he said. I was also standing next to the car when he kicked it and my buddy and about 25 other people stood there and watched in disbelief as his shoe bounced off the guys left 1/4. The lady standing next to me turned to me and said, "What an ***hole!".

    I'm a lot of things, but a liar I ain't!

Every time I hear his name, that moment in time flashes through my mind.

so is "him" george or his handler, either way he's signed millions of autographs for free, his autograph is worth money to alot of people, so what if he was charging, what do you do for a living. i know i wouldn't mind getting paid for autographs.....

i remember seeing roth at viva one year signing autographs for $5 and peddling some merch, kind of sad in a way......

Well if you're a local celebrity and have people probing into your life like that... mind telling us why you're a local celebrity? **** star, thief, priest, boyscout leader, pulled someone out of a burning building? :)

  18. I went out there yesterday and there was too much "Rocka-silly" for my tastes. I saw all the big names and did not once want an autograph from any of them. Seen Gene many times now, first time for Hines, Grabowski, and Watson. Did not even look for Barris. Thought it was kinda cool that Norm asked me nicely to let him get behind the booth where Watson was signing away like a madman. Everyone seemed pretty much as I expected them to be having a good time. Highlight of my day was roaming Gene's Junkyard/kustumland out back. Hope there is another show next year.-Weeks

  20. Paul was here in Bako for the 99 cruise on saturday and I got his signature. Awesome guy as I expected. He told his handler to, "SHUT THE HECK UP. LET THE FELLA FINISH THE STORY." I was telling him about how Muttley started a thread about AG on here on the HAMB and also about the Duece of Spades film being low budget. He was super sincere and It made my day for sure.-Weeks

I always wanted to meet Barris since I was a kid in the 60's. I finally met him in Baltimore at their Custom Car show and he wouldn't even shake my hand. But he did sign his picture for $5.00. What a dissapointment. R. Lee Ermey and Dennis Gage were there too. WOW, what nice guys they were. They talked to you like you were a long lost friend. I saw Paul LeMat at Bigglersville PA a couple of years ago and he was darn nice too. But Barris....what a jerk.

  29. George is a desent guy, the couple of times I've seen him, I sat in his booth, we talked about cars he's built, and the ones he's said he did. He's really just guy like most folks and has good day's and bad like the rest of us, he intro'ed me to Mr Bill when I rolled in to see him with my 550 in santa maria, I first just stopped over to say hi, cause it was close, he actully told me to go get the car and bring it in, gave my a barris p***, I had to out the seats back in to drive it back over, he heard of my 550 at Volo's in chicago, and had last seen it entering a show in miami, when it was brought in from argentina. I ask him to sign it, if he liked, and he didn't have any problem and did in front of folks and started telling about this car, and things I had not known of it, and he suggested signing under the bonnet to protect it, and it did indeed increase the value when I sold it, because of Barris's 550 /dean Spyder connection, I saw and watch the guy for hours at that show, when a guy (and there was a few, no handlers, just George and I talking) guys would come up to us (him) out side, and tell about his car over there, bla bla bla, and George had not seen it, but he tells the guy , yea I saw that one, it was really well done, and it was one of his favorites..to see the guy just glow because this hot rod demi, because of his kind (maybe a bit stretched) words.
thats the stuff people dont hear, and I saw it , time after time that day.
