Is the c-cab henry29 posted the actual one from the brochure or did they all get the purple candy ribbon fade thing..?
would be interesting to find out how many were produced and how many sold in kit form...

The "dump" here is a massive landfill project and the backfilling is done with BIG bulldozers. With all of the construction, population and stuff in this area, it would literally be under cubic yards of debris and dirt. A shovel would be as useful as a teaspoon... not the romantic vision of your local small-town "dump" where bicycles and old TV's stay intact.... Plus they don't let you dig around unless you are the cops and are looking for a body. :D

    PLUS 2 for these sites;

    Definitely, the www.dunebuggyarchives.com .
The guy that runs that has been most helpful in trying to ID my buggy.

....and www.thesamba.com is invaluable for all around info and other VW sources.

Awesome find, never been a fan of most of the GOOFY buggys, but now that so much time has passed, they do have some intrinsic value. They're kitschy, for sure. I'm seeing some SUPER WIDE blue streak indy car tires all around with chrome wires (Dave Shuten is producing them now.......just kidding!!) with a candy and flake paintjob.....

I did a lot of research when I found the one in the field, The only picture I ever found with that paint job is the one in the brochure. It does ave the same front tires and rims but the back tires have been changed. All of lights mirrors and brackets are the same as the brochure, with the exception of the cowl lights which have obviously been changed.

The kits came with all of the lighting and stuff.. the rear tires could have been swapped out at some point, VW's tend to wear the insides of the tires due to the swingarm suspension... that would be crazy if it was the same one. They had to take a picture of something. It's very possible... wonder where those crazy seats went?

If anyone has a hood for the T-buggy, I'd be interested in popping a mold or copying it. I found a guy with a nose piece that I could copy.

Look in the brochure and see if it was offered as a pre painted kit. The panel is airbrushed right? They could have had someone painting them for them. The one in the brochure has a painted stripe going to the door area that is not on the one in the field.

sadly enough, I remember the damn things from the bugaloos. I think I watched the reruns in the mid 70's. I think I would go dumpster diving too. One mans trash is Barris treasure!

  12. That'd be this one.....

  13. I was being a little sarcastic, but what if they got an anonymous call that there was a bunch of motor oil or something buried in that dumpster load?

The car in the field had the same stripes on top of the front and rear fenders, almost all of the paint had burned off but you could still make out the outline. The stripes stopped at the front of the door opening and started again just behind the door.

Hemi,I do fiberglass/carbon fiber for a living,I would be interested in helping you produce a couple of these.I will be at road atlanta the first week in october.Any chance of taking a look to see what conditionthe molds are in? Dave

  17. I put together a T Buggy back in the early 70's for a local DJ. She'd had the thing for a few years already and no one else would touch it. She drove that thing for at least 10 years. Even used it for her second job selling Electrolux vacs.

    That is a COOL find!!

  20. Bloody frightening,isn't it!
It's more the Barris aspect, than the buggy thing.

    Last one.
I believe this is the white and red one before it was restored.

We don't have the panels for the C-cab... or the hoods, for that matter. My buddy wants to make a hot rod out of the Fun Bug.. I've been telling him to eBay it to a dune buggy guy or Barris fan that will build it right, and finish his other projects.

    Who knows?

The roll-off was emptied at 3pm, I picked the stuff up @ 5pm. ..1 day too late. I drove by this abandoned warehouse 20 yrs....always curious to what was inside. It was a fiberglass Vault manufacturer that closed in the 70's. The molds were hidden in the corner. I talked to Barris and his Secretary both were amazed on the find.<p>I still have them too.

Re: "Barris T Buggy/C-Cab Molds." Greetings...Glad to see all the interest in these early kit cars! I recently purchased a hugh lot of fiberglass molds, which happened to come from "somewhere in Ohio". They consist of one Barris T and C Cab dunebuggys. I have the main body mold, hood/dash mold, grill mold, seat mold, and 1 rear c-cab rear assy/actual part/mold plug. Also in the lot were 3 VW Baha kit molds, stock and mod.VW fender molds, 2 Meyers Manx complete molds w/ 2 hardtop roof assys.etc. Don't know if this lot is,was some of the parts that were sent to the dump? They are now located in Central Penna. I would consider selling off the Barris molds...any interest? Thank's All.....Aussiedoggie917@yahoo.com
