As I recall I think I had coil spring suspension in my slightly OT Olds F85 and I used that type of traction bar to keep the axle from winding up with the pinion pointing to the sky. I do remember that the ride was quite comfortable and the Olds was almost never beaten off the line at the strip.
the clamp on the front will keep the front o,f the bar from touching the ground on hard braking also when the front is clamped tight it will straighten the front of the spring out and lower the car slightly when the bar hits the spring eye on hard accel it will tend to try and lift the car but at the same time lift the car and push the rear end down ( wrinkle walls)
The Caltracs are better at preventing axle tramp, but are mid-90's technology. Traction Masters (fixed at both ends) are a little more HAMB friendly (date back to the 50's), and traction bars/slapper bars (fixed at one end only) to the early 60's (via "Gentleman Joe" Schubeck, and probably others too). Cheers, Harv
