John, Before pulling 825 miles. Have the hoses, tires and fluids checked. Better safe than sorry. Hope to see you in Beaver Springs. Enjoy your ride home from BAMA! Jay
Sorry for your loss. Drive it you will be fine, that's a beautiful blue btw. I pulled my Olds out of a junkyard after 19 years and drove it to a car show 57 days later.....
Take some pictures of your Aunt and Uncle and set them on the dash for your road trip. They deserve one last ride in that car. Have a great drive.
Use your head. It's the basis for a great custom. Every hot rod and custom on the HAMB started out as a stock something (or somethings).

Every hot rod and custom on the HAMB started out as a stock something (or somethings). As always, you get all kinds of answers and comments. Glad the good members and great comm ents outnumber the smarft ***es! Take their advice, check out the Caddy, maybe stop up the road at outlawsteel's place, if nothing else, to shake their hands, and drive that big boat home. Good luck.
John, I'm sorry to hear about your uncle, but I'm sure he knew the car would be in great hands. What a great looking car. Good luck on driving her back- if it weren't for work and having this baby due any day now, I'd offer to help get it back up here. Should you have any problems on the trip back I believe you have my number. I've got a trailer that she'll fit on with no problem.
Sorry for your loss, but, happy for your gain. My dad was a Cadillac man. First one I remember was a 49 then a 53 then my favorite a 58 and a 62 I wasn't real crazy about. Love your new ride.
Sounds like you lost one heck of an Uncle. My condolences to all that knew him. Looks like it just needs a little TLC to sparkle again.
Sorry for your loss, but you have to feel honored that he wanted you to have it. Cadillacs are just magnificent autombiles and have been forever. I've owned a few over the years and still own one today. They are more than just comfortable, they are well engineered and built, and have always been strong performers. Heck, 825 miles will just be a walk in the park for that beautiful old gal. Just take your AAA card and cell phone and enjoy the ride home. The one thing that I would do is make sure you have a good spare tire. The tires on it are probably old and may look fine, but when they start traveling at highway speeds things can happen to them due to age. Just have a good spare and a jack and you should be ok. Don
Good that Unk thought enough of you to entrust the standard of the world to your care. May he rest in peace. here is the theme song for your drive home And that's when I heard that highway sound. The cadillac a-sittin' like a ton of lead A hundred and ten a half a mile ahead. The cadillac lookin' like it's sittin' still And I caught maybellene at the top of the hill.
great car - my priest used to drive one just like it - every winter he came to bless our home and backed into the sluceway each time - glad when he got rid of it - wish i had it tho - as a side note, my friend p***ed away unexpectedly 2 months ago - he left his 1955 porsche spyder to my wife and i - we have mixed emotions but would really rather have our good friend instead of the car - he was only 51 and put his heart and soul into this vehicle...rip danny...
That brings back old high school memories...hopefully it will remind you of the people who loved you and trusted you enough to take care of a true beauty. Personally I would make the car something to cruise and be seen in so that people would stop and ask me questions, then I could tell them the story.
Sorry for your loss.Your Uncle sounds like he was a great person. Check the Caddy out from stem to stern and head her for the barn(home).Have a safe trip. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
thanks guys.....I appreciate the kind words. I got the first of the paper work today........***le is next !!!
that paint is gorgeous! i would polish the hell out of it, get her in tip top shape and drive the tires off of it. but then again the devil on my shoulder is giving me a good recipe for a nice kustom. drop it to the weeds, put on some gray torque- thrusts, white tuck 'n roll interior, with white pinstriping. either way it's a win-win.
This morning at 11:30 AM in Birmingham with Bill Squire's Auto Transport doing the work. 8AM in the morning Thursday means the wait is over. I love the blue gl***
good idea to tow it, 825 miles in that car would be......about 400 gallons of gas to those few that dont think its hamb friendly, its a "mild custom" I believe the air freshener and floor mats are custom
What made you decide to carry her home? Good to see it outside. My condolences tou you and your family....enjoy the caddy.
Dang, John, For the life of me I don't know how I missed this thread before. I would have gone to Alabama with you in a support role. That's not a bad drive down to Birmingham, heck I drove to Cancun, Mexico once, that's right, DROVE to Cancun! Anyway I look forward to seeing the new ride. Sorry for the loss of your uncle, he must have been a great guy. I thought all your peeps were from Chicago! Love those '64 Caddies, and a Coupe deVille makes it sooo cool, not some stodgy ole Sedan deVille. Enjoy it and keep your Uncles' memory alive............................Don.
