My dad used to smoke Pall Mall cigarettes for a while, which he always pronounced "Pell Mell", I thought he was mangling the pronunciation of yet another word on purpose, he did that a lot. Turns out I'd lived most of my life not knowing that is the correct pronunciation. Why aren't I informed of these things?!
"Regardless" works just fine, there is no reason to tack on an "Ir" in front of it. No use wasting electrons. Sort of like Flammable, Inflammable, Nonflammable. Whose ****ing idea was that? Another annoyance is the need by some to tack "Pre" to every damn thing. "You've been Pre-approved" or "You can pre-register in advance." or "pre-planning" it's like saying "plan ahead of time" is there any other way?? We don't ever do any post-planning do we? Another is VIN Number, PIN Number, or ATM Machine. Eschew obfu****ion people!
Please excuse my faux pas, that damned "N" is pretty close to the "M" on the key board, lets blame it on fat fingers and lack of proof reading. While we are nit picking, you really should use a apostrophe between the "N" and the "T",it should read - ain't. HRP
It sure is in the Sunny South, I was raised hearing the word my entire life, heck even Webster's acknowledges the word. And where would we be without it's use in music? "Ain't no sunshine when she's gone" Or in famous quotes? "It ain't over till it's over" - Yogi Berra Just messing with you my friend. HRP
Pertnear ain't a word either but I have heard that you southerners use it to mean almost or close to!
Dammit Danny, I wish I'd known that! Many years ago we had a smart *** engineer that thought he was always right (he wasn't), I went to have him correct a dimension on a blueprint one time and he argued that my proposal was not accurate (it was), we went round and round, don't recall the exact context but I used the word irregardless (been using it for years) and he swore up and down there was no such word. He got fired some time later, probably corrected the wrong person.
You have to remember to use proper punctuation in that type of situation, you should have dotted his eye! HRP
American by birth,Southern by the grace of God! HRP Now back to the regularly scheduled thread. Danny
I had to copy your image because its shows one of my pet peeves and now I can show it instead of trying to 'splain it to um
Thinking the 32 guys and Hot Rodders in general are pretty open minded, Be around a Corvette group sometime, that's real OCD, **** to the max IMO. I always enjoy the 32 debates a**** owners and non 32 people, gets good on here sometimes. Have said this before, everyone real Hot Rodder had, have or wants one (32) that should wind a few guys up this am. LOL
This seems to fit here somehow. http://www.exploratorium.edu/files/exhibits/ladle/ This can't be right. I'm sure by '32 Henry knew a Chevy wouldn't be behind a Ford.
