Coys of London have sold a Batmobile tribute built from a 57 Lincoln 2 door hardtop as an actual car used to promote the TV show back in the sixties.

Some poor ****er paid $200,000 to buy what they think is a piece of TV history.

    See link for auction description:

    http://www.coys.co.uk/auctions/lot.php?auction=59&id=43943

    Then check out:

    For real Batmobile info.

The question is, does this matter if its not real or has the guy been burned?

Anyone who spends six figures on a car and gets burned gets no sympathy from me.....because......anyone throwing THAT kind of jack around ought to know how to do their research first. Let some judge sort it out.

Maybe you didn't read the complete article. They never claimed it to be an original batmobile.

    From the website...
"It is unknown how many 'Batmobiles' were built, but the car we are proud to offer today is understood to be the 6th produced, and built by Jay Orhrberg of Jay Orhrberg Star Cars in Hollywood, California."

    also
"It resided alongside Batmobiles from the films "BATMAN" and "BATMAN RETURNS" as part of the worlds largest private collection of Batmobiles." Never says it was in the films...

It certainly isn't one of Jay Orhrberg replicas - it is hand built in England from a 57 Lincoln.

They auction house have implied that this is one of the official TV cars used to promote the show.

I agree the ambiguity of it may get them out of a hole!

I can see where this, read in its entireity, says it was the 6th promo vehicle.

"To promote the show, one of the most popular in the U.S. at the time, the producers commissioned further cars and a number were produced.

These cars toured the country, appearing at any number of events such as race meets and County fairs. It is unknown how many 'Batmobiles' were built, but the car we are proud to offer today is understood to be the 6th produced, and built by Jay Orhrberg of Jay Orhrberg Star Cars in Hollywood, California."

    Hmmmm...

Seems that what with the price of cars today that an original one would have went for more than that anyways.

A guy here in town built a Batbike and Batboat.

Has the go-cart on the sidecar and all. He got into some troubles supposedly with the boat as it was built from the original molds and the ownership of the molds are in question. (so the story goes) and he ended up giving the boat to a museum.

He has an exact copy of the costume and all but not enough balls to wear it around town riding the bike.

I saw one of those bat mobiles broken down on the highway here outside Atlanta. It was funny. Alfred must have forgot to get the oil changed.

I'd have to have a lot of disposable dough to consider 200K for a bat mobile.

The Futura is way cool - anyone know the story on it?

To be honest, I don't think the money is out of the way but they've made such a big thing of it with it being on TV shows and newspapers, I think they should come clean and let the buyers decide!

  16. Holy BAT**** Robin!

  17. I would love a batmobile...actually saw one once, on the road driving along Warwick Road in Coventry. Almost fell off my bike (I was probabaly only 13 0r 14 if that). None of the kids at school would belive me but a few years later I found out one of the original cars was owned by a guy who lived in Coventry and on Warwick Road (opposite King Henry VIII School) in the gaudiest house you ever saw. It even has a fake windmill (10 feet tall) in the front garden....still want a bat mobile..

The red car is not a clone of the Batmobile.

It is a '57 Lincoln Futura show car.

  19. He can ride on Robin. Me, I'd take Batgirl, but that's just me...;)

  22. I've heard that for the right money, George Barris/Carroll Shelby/etc, will authenticate the provenance of a dog turd.

Geeezzzz. How many of these things have built?!

There was one here at the annual collector car auction/sale about five or ten years ago that was for sale. If I recall correctly, the asking price was about $8000. It was unrestored, but complete and running. I don't know who built it, but it was clearly a professional build. It was black with all trim (pinstripping and interior) done in day-glow orange. It didn't sell.

There was another one that was shown at the local World of Wheels. The entire body was covered in some kind of black velvet looking material! It was billed as the "real" batmobile by the WOW promoters. It was the feature car that year.

I think there is company that repops the whole body, 1966 version and the 1989 batmobile, I've seen both, but were built up clones at an auto auction yard in Pomona a long time ago. In fact I think I remember seeing an ad or web page that offerer them.

My boss just sold one at the RM auction in Florida and he got 216,000.00 for it. Makes me sick to know he made that on a fake car and can't afford to pay me medical insurance. ********!
