Im looking for the correct group size for a 12v battery in a 40 Deluxe. I've gotten conflicting information on size. The current battery is way to small to sit proper in the tray
I would just measure the available space, go to battery store of choice and measure available batteries. That is what I would do. Ben
Measure the tray, look online for group size (bci) measurements and remember some have reverse posts if needed (usually an "R" after the group size). Find one you like and go to the store and look at it, have a back up bci ready as some might have caps or a holder in the way.
Problem is the height of battery to get clamp to fit properly. The group size for this battery is not tall enough. Get ahold of Kube on the Ford Barn. He knows his stuff about '40s
Probably ANY 12v battery will work. Just figure out the dimensions. In my OT 1989 suburban 350 with factory fuel injection... Even a garden tractor battery (which at that time was $20 at Walmart) would easily crank that sucker over and fire off successfully. I even use the same battery in my badass Prius. It's like ... why pay Toyota f****** $200 for a battery that when a Walmart $20 battery will do the job easily??? Yes...the dimensions are different. But being slightly creative with a block of wood made a difference in the factory mounting place. And the battery connectors... I didn't have to cut anything off or change any terminals. Just a longer 10 mm machine bolt.
I converted my '50 Ford 8N and '55 850 tractors to 12V, and a Group 35 12V battery fit the battery box just fine, almost identical in size to the original 6 volt
Dang man, if the battery is working good just change your hold down bracket some and use that sucker up!
