i gotta wonder about this battery i got from costco,i put it on the charger to bring it up a lttle and it was reading 15 volts!!! when i took the charger off it settled down to 13.5 or so,which seems a little high to me.i always thought that each cell on a lead-acid battery was good for 2.2 volts,x6 makes it 13.2,so WTF?
where did you get 15 volts reading? from the dash gauge or? put a volt meter on it. (not installed in the car) and that should give you correct read.Gaues are typically not overly accurate.
If the battery isn't hooked up to anything it should be 12 volts, I think 14.5 volts is correct alternator voltage usually.
Yorg.... a 12 V battery is fully charged at 12.6 V .....it.s 2.1 V per cell..... 13.2 or so is OK ...that's just a "surface" charge .....it'll settle down to 12.6 ..... when charging a normal car can easily put 14 or more volts to the battery ---- you should be fine .... Jersey Skip
Yorg ...ALSO --- a battery charger will put out higher voltage when the charging starts.....then as AMPERAGE goes up in the batt. the voltage from the charger goes down... Go to madelectrical.com LOTS of good knowledge there ... Jersey Skip
surface charge huh? that makes me feel better, thanks guys.usually when i put a battery on the charger it has to struggle to get a full charge going.i'll have to check out this www.madelectrical.com
