*sigh* Electrical codes are written by men and do not necessarily align with SCIENTIFIC FACT.

Hell, the codes change every few years. The FACTS of electricity are tied to the nature of the universe.

Do what you want. It is a free country. But please separate FACT from OPINION.

Ya got a lot of points here and some good advise, Soa-nova and beetlejuice in my opinion have sound wiring recommendations.
Bottom line is you want to do quality work because if you have electrical failure in the middle of no where at 2:00 am on the way to Bonneville or worse, an electrical fire, it will be your fault.
All your doing is moving a battery, its not black magic, intuition or some big bag of bull **** theory. All the theory in the world don't compare to real life experience, and having woke up on a Sunday morning on a cabin cruiser, with a wife and two teenagers, dead in the water anchored in a remote bay...nobody was happy with me because I trusted some jughead to do the wiring. I did my home work and rewired K.I.S.S. After rewiring two engines,, starters, alternators, genset, four batteries, manual switch's, electrical isolation, electronic battery monitor/charger...(well you get the idea) moving a car battery is like changing the batteries in a flash light.
    Oh ya, K.I.S.S.
