I'm sorting thru my parts and one of the bare blocks doesnt seem to exist in my code book. Its a 427,2 bolt main, oil cooler holes, std bore. The stamped code on the rf pad is TO319MH. The casting # is C1498. On the left bell housing flange its marked "HI PERF CONV".The timeing chain cove is doweled . I could use some help figureing where this came from!
date code sound fishy....could it really be C 14 8 or C 14 9? That would make it March 14th 1968 or 1969 I can't find MH in my listings....there are some close, but not exact.
1968 full size 427 codes all start with I. 69 full size codes mostly start with L, except for MA, MB, MC MD
The casting # is hard to read,I will take some pics tomorrow, but the C14 is very legeable, then there is a blob that I interpret as a 9,followed by an 8.
I went down tonight and took the pics.I broke this motor down and put it on the shelves about 30 yrs ago.In the last 2 pics are the rods , pistons, and caps. The rods are 3/8 bolt dimpled, pistons are trw #3888304. The crank is steel. Maybe this helps.
the partial VIN starts with 19S which is 1969, and S is where they built the vettes. the casting date looks like a 9 sounds like that's what you have. Forged pistons...nice
The heads were done after I made a parts pile out of it.They were oiled and bagged. I can dig them out tomorrow. I have shelves loaded with this stuff, all from the early 70's when I was into it,this is just the first one!
If you need someone to get that stuff off your hands, let me know!!! Where in Michigan are ya???... I'm in Dearborn...
The heads that I believe came with this block are pictured. I say this because they are the only ones on the shelf that had traces of white paint on them. They are 425 hp/427/396 heads with the large 2.19 intake valves and closed chambers. The ports have been gasket matched and it looks to me as if the valves, springs, and retainers are new. I am glad I unbagged them though since there is some rust forming in spots.I will re-oil them with amsoil metal protecterant which displaces moisture and congeals to a waxy film.Tag them and re-bag them , back on the shelf and on to the next pallet!
Glad that you have kept that stuff around as most of it has been worked over so many times over the years. I know of someonewho has a 427 that has the date code for a 67 Vette(not sure HP rating) and it needs 8 sleeves. Post up some pictures of blocks and heads.
