OK motor heads. The BBC in the 48 seems to run best at 22 degrees initial and 41 degrees total. The cam has a 244 duration @50 and is a hyd. roller with 560 lift. with a dual quad Seems like a lot of initial, but if I back off it stumbles on standing wot. No pinging or heating isses, just runs graet at this timing. Any thoughts if this is an issue? Gary
Initial sounds a little high, but a BBC expert that helped me build my 480 told me that they like around 38 total, so you're not that far off. Maybe try grinding the stops a bit on the rotor weights to get more centrifugal advance so you can back the initial off a bit. Guess if it will start at 22, no harm no foul..
Ran my old BB's at 42 degrees total ,18 degrees initial with the distributor set a 24 degrees coming in at 3000 rpm ,,if yours starts and runs good as it is ,,,leave it alone and run it ,,
I run 20 initial and 38 total in my 292/.509 cammed 440 with no ill effects. If your Chevy runs good then go with it...
