Is the 460 the same sized block as the FE blocks? Either way, Nimrod, Id like to see better pictures of the front of your hood sides. I can see your steering is on the outside of the car, hence no fenders, and it looks like the brakes are under the floor, so that solved that issue. But still, those valve covers gotta be touching the hood on the inside, and Id really like to see how you solved the exhaust manifolds too.
I've lost most all of my pictures in a computer mishap. There's a pretty good setback to the engine and it's got less than 1/4 inch clearance pretty much everywhere, but it's in there. Exhaust is just homemade headers, and a couple of blisters in the hood sides to clear 'em.
You didn't mention what trans would be used... I can tell ya that a tall case (C6) Ford trans for that unit takes up a whole bunch of floorboard. Something to consider.
Back of the head to the front of the water pump: FE= 32" LIMA= 30.5" Across the heads outside stock iron manifolds: FE= 28" LIMA= 29" Crankshaft center line to top of the valve covers: FE= 15" LIMA- 17" Crankshaft center line down to the front of the oil pan: FE= 7" with a rear sump pan LIMA- 8" with a rear sump pan I have three FEs laying about the shop and one 514 LIMA. I have installed about a dozen LIMAs over the last few years and about four FEs. The FEs have their quirks that make installing a bit difficult but they seem to be easier than the LIMAs based on motor mount, exhaust and accessories. The FE uses a water pump arrangement similar to the Chevrolet line of pumps while the LIMA uses a timing cover reminicent of the Windsor series. This means the oil pan is longer and can get hung up in steering components, crossmembers and such. Also
I put a 429 cobrajet in one of my model a's. The 460 and the 429 have the same dimensions. If I remember correctly they are 31 inches from the rear of the engine to the end of the front pulley. I custom built thr frame so it was 5 " longer in front of the firewall. They are also pretty heavy the engine alone is 750 lbs! But they sure do look cool and they both last forever! Eddie
i saw it run a new england dragway..thing sounded mean with the crazy blower surge everyone was looking then it ran a 14 something spinning the tires the whole track trapping like 130
Best I ever ran with it was 12.32 @109mph with a worn out late 70's truck motor with a single vac secondary Holley. Would have been cool to see it run with the supercharger.
Ok....Mine is kind of on the other end of the spectrum....as i used a 460 because it was huge. I run an aluminum adapter with a race prepped c-4. Very... VERY cramped in the car, but i sacrificed a lot of legroom for the engine height.
