Fun looking cruiser. On the tire size thing. Play with this tire size comparison chart a bit.

A 235 tire is going to be right at 9.3 inches wide no matter what the aspect ratio is A 215 will be about 8.5.
https://tiresize.com/comparison/ It's interesting to play with and helped me pick the tires for my 48 the other day. Screenshot (1276).png

I’m trying to have a wicked good summah cruisah guy

thanks! That’s my goal with it lol

thanks! I’m noticing on the car that the issue isn’t so much how wide the tire is, it’s how much offset the wheels that are on it have. I’ll probably have to find another set of wheels for it.

Small update. Been trying to grind out getting things done on this car whenever the weather will permit me to (I didn’t know I moved to the PNW apparently) got all new soft lines in the brake system, the one on the torque tube was a little too soft, so I decided changing all of them was probably a good idea. I have a new bushing for the upper steering column that needs to be installed, I have to figure out how to get the horn button out on this steering wheel. It doesn’t seem to be the same as a 40 wheel, or the buttons just seized into the steering wheel somehow.

the big thing though, tonight I was trying to fix my issue with the lack of brake lights and I have figured out the actual problem. The entire wiring harness has been completely butchered in the car. Parts are spliced and hacked up, there wire nuts in it everywhere. Every non factory wire in it is black, there is 0 guesses in it to top it all off (something I find very scary) in conclusion there I think I’m going to end up re wiring most of the car, I wanted to start cleaning it up a bit today however I don’t want to go cutting shit willy nilly without knowing what things do/ where they go.
I’ve found some photos of diagrams on Van Pelt’s site, however the resolution isn’t great on the photos and I can’t quite read the text on them, does anyone here have higher resolution scans of them?

    Thanks!

Looks like a nice car that hasnt been taken apart left out in a field to rot and get destroyed by Bubba Hogwallop (expert) and put on facespook marketplace for $45k, ran when parked before taken apart to rot

How much did you pay $$ ?

Does the starter have the front support clip that goes to a pan bolt on it? If not, I would highly recommend one. Third Gen Automotive in McMinnville, TN has them.

I’m honestly not quite sure if it does, I’ll have to crawl under and check it tomorrow.

Got some film scans back. att.vAP2tLDxTsEXBoA-ZWo4_jwhQHub2IFapnu-YPmV4yw.jpeg att.K2fCp6jklhPFzlYMtp5FD-p17sDd1ZGSUiUQTq04pHQ.jpeg

Happy Memorial Day my fellow HAMBrs
    Small update.

I’ve started work on the wiring, stripped out all the non factory wiring, it seems it’s all for an aftermarket blinker kit someone had installed into it. I think I’m going to just run it for now without blinkers, they’d be nice but it’s a 1941 legally it doesn’t need them and they’re just creating more issues at the moment. Whoever had wired it too, boy what a job they did. Every wire they installed was black and made no sense at all. I’m shocked any of the lights worked to be honest.

The original wiring In the car seems to be decent at least, I’m still replacing the rear harness and the tail light pig tails for my piece of mind.
I think another part of my issue I am having with the brake lights is the really questionable power brake setup someone has installed into the car, it has a very one off bracket to push the master cylinder far enough back that the booster can fit between the frame rail and the X frame, it has an odd taillight switch setup on it that may or may not actually function correctly. To top all that off it had a really ugly vacuum canister poorly mounted to the firewall, I’m removing all of that, going back to manual brakes and an original style switch. I think it will not only make the car simpler but also help aid in being able to fill the master with fluid.

Did you just use the 41 Ford bumper brackets for the Plymouth bumper?

If it's half-baked and one-off does that make it half-off?
That's (insert about 5 derogatory words)!

yep, it lines up close enough with the 2 center holes on the bumper, I have to either get creative with the outer or use a torch and bend them to actually fully bolt it onto the car though.
It’s about to be fully off once my new master shows up

Jesus I ain’t updated this thread since May? My bad.

I got my new master installed, dual circuit master kit from old yankee, the correct pressure taillight switch and the tail lights wired in, no blinkers right now but it’s a 41 it doesn’t legally need them.

have been having a ton of gremlins with the fuel system on it, put a pressure regulator on it to help the carb not flood, 3 different carbs that all seem to be… not great. None seem to make it want to idle. Despite that I’ve put a couple miles on it so far, everything else seems to be pretty ok except one of the brakes sounds like it is metal on metal.
I have pulled it apart and found this

I think I’ll call that “suboptimal” getting new shoes is no problem, millworks has them on their site for I believe $80, they’re somewhat local so I’d probably have them in a day or two and could bang it out after work. However I’m not putting new shoes on drums that look like that lol. I think they’re grooved too much to turn even, not that I know of anybody local that turns brakes anyway. I’m kind of weary of buying aftermarket parts for things like this on these sorts of cars.. I’ve been down the road with shit Chinese parts too many times before as is. So I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do yet I guess.
