doing some shopping for latches. seems like bear claw is all i can find anywhere, but most of what i find is large ones. i think they are like 4 1/2 inches tall. the small is 1 inch shorter. is there any advantage to getting the bigger, or is it just what fits your door? i dont know what will fit, i have to measure it this weekend. anybody want to reccomend another latch that is around the same price? trey
Bear claws are the BEST you can get...some of them have double catches...sort of like a hood release...the larger ones are double (I think) and the smaller ones only have on catch... I've used both and both work quite well...I even used one for a trunk release once... I don't think you can find anything better than bear claws... Just my 13 cents... R-
Put some in today on a 39 Chevy Coupe. I make my own patch plate. You cut out the door and weld in the patch with the cut out and mount holes for the latch. I have tried adapting some factory latches. I like to use factory stuff whenever I can. These bear claw are worth the money. I think some of the large over the road trucks use the bear claw latch.

i was discussin bearclaws with a friend on my old 34 truck, we're going to put them in ....., but i swear i saw some that used the stock ouside handle, as in it had a square female hole where the stock doorhandle fit right in.... has anyone else seen these? , i would like to get some for my next coupe also

Case tractors and loaders use 'em too. They have the square hole for old automotive door handles. They're double action too but I don't remember if they have a lock option. I'm thinking the lock feature is made into your handle. New handles can be bought from camper/motor home supply houses. They came with or without lock cylinders and are reasonable
whats with all the hardware that comes off of them? what does all of it do? is any of it optional? i guess thats the only concern i have with them, all the extra dangly things. trey
Most all of the aftermarket ones Ive installed are made by "TRI-MARK' in Dennison or Denton?-Iowa.....anyone know of this company and how we could buy them there/I believe they are for farm tractors/implements also............
Trey. The ones I use are exactly the same, but come with no strikers. They run $5.99 each and work bitchn'.
