doing some shopping for latches. seems like bear claw is all i can find anywhere, but most of what i find is large ones. i think they are like 4 1/2 inches tall. the small is 1 inch shorter. is there any advantage to getting the bigger, or is it just what fits your door? i dont know what will fit, i have to measure it this weekend. anybody want to reccomend another latch that is around the same price?

Bear claws are the BEST you can get...some of them have double catches...sort of like a hood release...the larger ones are double (I think) and the smaller ones only have on catch...

I've used both and both work quite well...I even used one for a trunk release once...

I don't think you can find anything better than bear claws...

    Just my 13 cents...

Put some in today on a 39 Chevy Coupe. I make my own patch plate. You cut out the door and weld in the patch with the cut out and mount holes for the latch. I have tried adapting some factory latches. I like to use factory stuff whenever I can. These bear claw are worth the money. I think some of the large over the road trucks use the bear claw latch.

FL model freightliner uses them, and are cheaper than the hot rod vendors. At a salvage yard they are even cheaper, but the left one is usually worn out.

Case tractors and loaders use 'em too. They have the square hole for old automotive door handles. They're double action too but I don't remember if they have a lock option. I'm thinking the lock feature is made into your handle. New handles can be bought from camper/motor home supply houses. They came with or without lock cylinders and are reasonable
