Anyone here familiar with Bear ****ysers ...........??? I have one of their Engine ****yser Modules (43-270 CE) which interfaces non computer controlled vehicles to a laptop to view things such as ignition performance in detail. I only use it occasionally and have to re-learn how to use it every time I need it, but this time it seems to want to update something but I'm not sure what it's asking me. I've looked for the Bear company and its parent companies ( Automotive Diagnostics / SPX Corp) but there's very little information as far as I can see. The ****yser itself is as old as the hills bought new in 1995, so it's possible the company went out of business a long time ago ...............but I'm hoping someone else out there is still using one and knows more about it than I do. Any offers...........??? Thanks in advance.
if you post a picture of the screen that is asking you to update, then we could see what you're talking about.
Having a big old Marquette scope in my garage I'm going to have to say that old electronics is old electronics no matter if it is a TV, car stereo or a tune up machine. Bear made/sold a lot of automotive shop equipment in the past primarily alignment and brake service equipment. I did find that you can search for Bear, Allen or SPX black box according to this add for the software. Basically the one & only time I tried my hand at working for someone else (other than flipping burgers or driving a tow truck as a teen) was as the Cleveland Area Sales Manager for Bear Automotive. Lasted less than a year as my own business was only about two years old & I could not do both. That was a time when they had just came out with the new "Ace" engine ****yzer & the Dimension 4 Wheel alignment machine (84-85). I saw potential there, but just could not stand the suit & tie gig & found myself spending more time playing in the service dept than doing my job! The equipment was first rate for the time, but the company did not last too much longer after I bowed out. Wow...Bear ****yzer....this takes me back. First it was Bear out if Rock island, Il....then Applied Power bought Bear and Marquette Blackhawk and Branik...so a Bear engine ****yzer is a rebranded Marquette...Jack Stolle bought Bear and Marquette and combined to just Bear Automotive. They made the best engine ****yzer of their day. They were the first American company to use CCD technology in the wheel alignment field...SPX bought Bear and Allen ...virtually killed both by not understanding the equipment industry. The 43-270 was their first package that would interface with any computer and would connect to the DIS ignition systems. CARTEK has the rights to mfg and sell Bear products currently and they are out of Kalamazoo. Not sure if they kept selling the engine ****yzers but they would be your best shot.
