Technical Becoming Grumpy over Shorty/Snow White

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by osage orange, Oct 30, 2015.

  1. The title sounds more like a Disney movie plot, but I'm getting confused and grumpy/cranky over whether I will need to go with a Ford shorty racing water pump on my 77 351W or perhaps the Snow White short pump, or if I can still put in the standard water pump in my '29AA. I've figured that the total distance from the frame engine mount to the hole in the front crossmember for the radiator mounting bolt is about 16 inches, and that's also where the front of the pulley comes to on the water pump when I figure the distance back to where the motor mount fits on the engine. In other words, unless the back of the radiator is even with that hole in the front crossmember, I need an extra 1-2 inches, which either of these shorter pumps will give me. I don't have a radiator yet, so I can't do a mock up. Also, since the Snow White requires a Chevy-style radiator (passenger side lower outlet), I will have to decide on two things: Water pump and radiator.

Recommendations? Advice? Am I making a mistake somewhere in measurement? Pete & Jakes fabricated the motor mount on my frame, so I will also consult with them to see what they prepared it for.

Get your Chevy outlet radiator and do a mock up. If you can get by with a standard pump, use a pre '69 pump as the outlet is on the right like a Chevy is.

  3. Great information. I double measured, and from what I've figured based on measurements posted on parts websites, that gains me about 3 inches. Just what I need. Thanks! I'll double check to ensure that the 68 Fairlane pump mates exactly to the 77 timing cover, but looks like it does.
