I would "mike" the id to be sure they are serviceable before blasting something that is useless

what would make them useless? We had them turned and need to clean the rust off of them.

I think he ment if you spend the time to bead blast them, then mic'ed them to see if they could be turned.

I blasted mine to get all the light rust off the top of them before painting that. I don't think you'll have a problem at all.

Ya ya! That why i need to blast them, so we can paint them. I already had them turned. I just need to get the rust off the top. what does "mic'ed" mean? I have 2 hours of Auto Mechanics class to waste so if i waste the time it dont matter anyways.

I think I spelled it wrong. Miked, or mic them... I don't have a clue how it's spelled. It's just when they use a tool to measure the thickness of the drum in milimeters(I think) to see if it can be turned.

    It's short for micrometer.

A micrometer (my-krom-uh-ter) is an instrument for measuring very small distances.

So, you should have them mic'd to see how much metal has been removed.

You meansure the inside diameter of the drum to see if it is under the maximum specification.
You measure the thickness of brake rotors to see if they are over the minimum spec.
The maximum inside diameter is frequently cast into the drum.
Anyone who has a machine, should have the proper tool for measuring drums.

    "waste"????????

  12. A good rule to follow is clean the grease off the part or use a wire brush first if it is just scaly. This way you won't contaminate the bead blaster with chunks of rust and grease. The chunks plug the gun and the grease makes a mess.

    badpat,
yes waste, the teacher is a joke, he doesnt teach us anything, he just tells us to work on our car and doesnt check to see if we didnt right. Probably because he wouldnt know right from wrong. He grades us on how long we worked basiclly. Once i adjusted my brakes and checked all my pads/shoes and some other kid put wiper blades on or somethin and got a better grade for that day cus it took him longer. LIke I said, the TEACHers a joke and doesnt TEACH

    fordnutz,
we got all the grease off already.

NO quickrod you dont understand, the teacher is an idiot. He has about the same IQ as a mouse. He doesnt teach us anything. I do pay attention too. But i cant learn if he doesnt do anything. I can learn most of what i need to know from my dad anyways and if he doesnt know i ask guys in our car club or here on the good ol HAMB. Thank you for everyones input too.
